Ricky Hatton has urged his fans to ignore speculation that he's set to announce his retirement.
Some reports last week claimed the former two-weight world champion was about to quit the ring for good.
But, writing in his exclusive diary in the Manchester Evening News, Hatton says if and when he does hang up his gloves, he'll announce the decision himself.
The Hitman said: "There has been a lot of hearsay in recent weeks regarding my retirement, but I urge my loyal fans to ignore the speculation.
"If, and when, I do eventually decide to retire, the announcement will be made by myself. I feel that I have earned the right to do it myself."
Hatton, who hasn't fought since that shuddering knockout by pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao last May, has also refuted reports that Freddie Roach turned down a request to train him.
"I was also interested to read that I had recently asked Freddie Roach to train me but that he turned me down. I wish to put the record straight that, while I have the utmost respect for Roach, I have never once asked him, or indeed considered him, to train me."
There was widespread speculation following the Pacquiao defeat that he wouldn't fight again, but earlier this year he announced his intention to return to the ring.
A showdown with Mexican great Juan Manuel Marquez was mentioned, as well as a potential domestic blockbuster with Amir Khan.

Anyone know if Marquez has a date for his next bout? I'm pretty sure he hasn't got an opponent named yet...
As long as Marquez hasn't got an opponent, theres a possibility Hatton will return.

Not too sure but your definitely right Hatton will fight Marquez. Somewhere in England (probably Manchester) and in the second half of the year.

    Thank God hes not retiring!

IF he fights again it will no doubt be in England, Manchester is most likely, but Wembley would be a good shout aswell. I can't see him fighting in America again...

If he has a good run then i think he will. If he reaches another megafight and hes proven hes still got it i think all the Brits will go over for one more trip. But i think hes gotta demolish Marquez and Khan first....Hatton-Khan at Wembley 2010 would be shithot!

I can't see him having more than two fights if he comes back to be honest. A win over Marquez would be a great return...Hatton Khan would be massive here in the UK, but I can't see it happening. The only other bout out there I see Hatton going for is Bradley, if that happens that would have to be in America.

Hatton should get a sponsorship deal with Jenny Craig, lose 60 pounds in preparation for a fight, claim that it is all due to Jenny Craig, so they then sign him up as a long term ambassador(with a hefty sign on bonus), and then after he gets knocked out, balloon up to 300 pounds on Fish and Chips.

Who really cares if Ricky Fatton quits he can't beat anyone worth while all he's waiting for is to try and get a big pay day figt and you know he's getting Koed on his fat ass. The guy was just a big hype and a big fat joke.
