According to the Daily Star, Ricky Hatton is starting his second career as a promoter on September 4, when Ricky Hatton Promotions will stage it's first event in Birmingham. Of course, Hatton is now part of the GBP family and expect his new promotional company and GBP to work together on the UK market... Hatton states that he wants to help other fighters fulfill their dreams, but what is more interesting that he said he's going to 'train fighters and manage fighters'... Well... what do you think of Ricky's promotional dreams, his first event and this training thing?
Im Ricky fan and think he would make a great promoter ... as for a trainer, i dont think so !! ... Whats he going to, teach his fighters how to block punches with their face !!
Yeah, training fighters is a bad move for Ricky (and especially for the proposed trainees). Whats that in your avatar...Yul Bryner in Taras Bulba????
Promoting will go a long way hopefully, he can start be signing the FW squad and get British Boxing where it should be. As for training fighters its a different matter, i dont necessarily think its as bad as bein said, its not like he gonna train fighters to fight like himself, his style is all his own and a very unique style for a English fighter, he could offer a lot of knowledge to a young fighter... Plus he would have a team around him to bring various snacks to the table....(no pun intended lol)
imagine the training. 'so, just stomp forward, throw a hook, then lean into your opponent for a hug and wrestle for a while, then repeat that for 12 rounds'
doesnt really set a good example of healthy eating outside of training (which has caught up to him) for up and coming/young fighters
Yes, its is ... im part Ukrainian and called Taras, so watched that film nearly everyday from about the age of 8 to 15 !! .. I loved it !! ... They so should do a blockbuster remake of it, but Bryner was so good, nobody else could portray Bulba that well !
Cracking film:good It is usually shown over here at least a couple of times per year. Thought they could have done without the singing, sticking more to the jumping over gaping chasms on horses stuff. Have to admit that I always took great pleasure in old Yul finishing off Tony Curtis at the end: "take that you treacherous *******".
Here's the boxrec schedule for Ricky's first promoted show: http://www.boxrec.com/show_display.php?show_id=559172
Hatton has achieved more in the ring then a lot of trainers so I don't think it's as bad an idea as a lot of people are making out. I'm sure he has a good boxing knowledge, just that he doesn't have the tools to fully execute a different style. Freddie roach hardly set the world alight as a boxer.
I think Hatton will be a good trainer. At least his stable of boxers will have mastered the subtle art of cuddling an opponent. Should be worthwhile once the fight ends.
