@ the last point - can't see that happening Apart from that fair enough, I rated Hatton above Cotto up until Cotto-Judah, I always thought Hatton would be a tougher ask than Cotto. I always thought stylistically Cotto is made for Mayweather because he is ponderous and unintense in what he does. I just don't think he matches up well with PBF because of that. Hatton/Williams/Margarito bring more intensity hence I think they can force more errors from Floyd. Hatton fought a bad fight but if he jabbed his way in, kept his guard up and let his hands go at mid range he'd have made it closer. BTW I've always had a dislike for Hatton, I'm from the same town as Junior Witter who Hattons ducked since 2000
lol, well hatton's boxed a little bit before, and he considers himself a pressure fighter. he's won titles at 2 weights, and has a win over p4p #3 koysta which is a better win than anything cotto has done yet.
To Freddie Wak ... How is he not ... he's always coming forward ... he doesn't know how to fight going backwards ... he doesn't have much of a jab ... head or shoulder movement ... I don't get what you're talking about ??? Hatton is a pressure fighter ...
I think Hatton was a pressure fighter, but as he's got older, he doesn't fight the way he used to do. I think, as you pointed out, the difference between hatton and a true pressure fighter is the way he works his way into the inside. By leaping in with lunging punches, he isn't applying effective pressure. I guess you could say the same for Aaron Pryor too, which should be described as a swarmer rather than a pressure fighter. Maybe that's what Hatton is, a swarmer? Either way, I think the perfect style to beat Mayweather is pressure and Hatton wasn't good enough at it. I don't think Cotto is aggressive enough to beat Mayweather tthough. He is too passive when he works his way in, so I think PBF would pot shot and run to a clear decision. I think the perfect foil for Mayweather's style is either JCC or Duran. He doesn't win more than one in ten against these two.
People are always slagging of hatton, it is just away of life. Oh Power puncher how is witter gearing up for his brilliant european title fight.
Hatton is a busier lil John Ruiz. John Ruiz is not a presure fighter but a clincher. So is Hatton. Last time I saw quality presure fighters fight they methodically work behind something to get on the inside and do their work. Ricky uses hooks to get inside but to clinch . He is a SWARMER with no purpose once he on the inside.
all you've said here is "i love cotto". why didn't you just post it and save all that trouble posting a long thread? nothing wrong with cotto at all - but, damn, you're pretty defensive and insecure in your belief if you have to do it this way.
Cotto is more boxer than come forward presure fighter. He can fight backward. Ricky hatton cant fight going backward but he could throw 1 or two punches than clinch. He's ****in Garbage in a ziplock bag. I dont open it to smell his ****.
