He isn't a pressure fighter anymore. He only ever fought something like a true pressure fighter in his WBU days, when his competition allowed for it. Since then he has had to resort to crude brawling, along with a lot of hitting and holding to smother his opponents work and paper over his defensive cracks. I'd describe his current style as a dirty brawler.
I'm not hating on Hatton, but what do you call a come forward fighter? ... he's always come forward ... yeah he can get on his toes a bit but when it comes down to it - he's either going to pressure you or brawl if you stand tall against his pressure.
TFFP ... he's brawling off the pressure ... if no one stood tall against his pressure and didn't turn it into a war of wills ... then it turns into Hatton pressuring the guy.
It depends on your criteria for pressure. If a pressure fighter is any guy that tends to come forward there are an awful lot of them. That's very basic pressure. A true pressure fighter is a Duran, a Chavez, or a Cotto. It's educated, calculated, and not at all reckless or involving consistent rule breaking
I think we have our wires crossed, I said other people are hating on hatton not you. I know he's a pressure fighter I have watched about thirty five of his 45 fights. He has boxed against ben tackie, eamon magee and jon thaxton but yes he his a pressure fighter.
dog, i'm a big ass hatton fan too...but to compare him to great pressure fighters is insane....to say floyd would mop the floor with cotto based on the hatton fight is alson insane....if you can't read between the lines, then dont read at all....:deal
Yeah cause hatton is definately a different fighter to cotto as somebody said cotto is very deliberate in his attacks.
cotto puts pressure on his opponents the minute they sign the contract...cause you never know what he's gonna do, all you know is that he can do it all :good
Floyd would mop the floor with Cotto simply because Cotto doesnt have any real defense to speak of and is generally slower footed and slower handed then Ricky Hatton. The thing Cotto has going for him is he's a better boxer and stronger.
