Just reading a bit of his book I thought that was interesting he said malignaggi caught him with a shot that he couldn't believe could hit him and that he was as fast as mayweather. But he hen said that when mayweather landed it made him stop and re think that he had to respect his power. There's some interesting comments about mayweather sr. How he was great before he started getting attention with the cameras for all access etc

Paulies speed had him handily winning the middle rounds against cotto and hatton at times as well. He out zipped (albeit an aged Zab) who said he was also taken aback at his speed. But Zab far outsped floyd in their fight...
So far he has only been outsped by Khan. He has been outperformed by a couple of guys and out timed by others, porter springs to mind on both counts lol.
Rarely, though, do we see Paulie getting off second. His problem has always been that his opponent can throw through his punches or throw slower punches that are timed better.
No discredit to paulie speed- it timing beats speed 7 times out of 10.
It stands to reason that he can still grind out w's against people who cannot adjust to fast fighters.
I'd have liked to have seen him in there with someone like Khan in his prime.

You can't compare their speed. Paulie may be very fast, but he's uneffective just like Zab, Floyd uses max of his speed. Also, Floyd has far better timing. Paulie would never beat A or A- level guys, even if they are slower (like Cotto and Ricky).

^^^ THis is true but can be attributed to the one handedness of Paulie. He has a lot in the way of speed but lacks anything of merit in the power department.
I'd rate his speed in the A category but his power is pretty abysmal... that being said, he frustrates fighters into inactive stances like Broner. I am not saying his punches against broner was noteworthy as far as damage, but they were enough to keep broner's guard up.

I watched the hatton fight again recently and he looked technically very good and fast but he had no fire and didn't look like he believed in what he was doing , in that fight he looked very fast and in fights with cotto and ndou he put some very fast moves together it's just his consistency and lack of power let him down . The elite fighters have beat him but if matched well I think he could of given certain top guys trouble. it's guys who are nearly as fast as him take risks and hurt him where he can't do the same , I think he could have got that extra win or two which would have done wonders to his legacy

Having speed and knowing how to use it are two seperate things.

The extract just shows all the little things involved in the outcome if a fight hatton was unhappy with training for Pacquio with sr acting the bollox and malignaggi was unhappy with his style for hatton even though I liked it.

It's balance and strengthmainly though , Paulie could never hurt people the mayweather can. Mayweather is much more all around, Paulie is clever ego gets in the way at times but May had more of an overall balance of skills , Paulie could move but hatton and porter who are both fast just drove through it at times cotto was close enough as Paulie speed was still relevant .

Speed is hard enough to judge I'd probably use PAC and khan as examples of speed though mayweather is a lot of balance and tmimg
