Looking back on his fights i'm not sure what to make of him.

Did he ever really look that good or was it just popularity that got him the big fights ??

He had fast feet when attacking, a good body attack and good head movement while coming in, he was just nowhere near Floyd`s level.

He was very good. When he fought guys who had faster hands his flaws came out. Happens to a lot of fighters. The elites can do that.

At the time, I thought that he was another British hype job, and clearly on a tier well below the elites. Could be a misconception, and I could likely have been unfair, though due to my annoyance with some of his fanbase. He did beat Tszyu and Castillo, both of whom I consider impressive names on a resume.

He was really good. And I thought Cortez didn't give him a chance to perform to his full capabilities in the May fight. Not that he would have won, per se, but he would have had a better chance. And one has to wonder what toll partying took on his career. Coke & booze certainly don't enhance performance.

He was a very good fighter .. Grew up in a pub ...Loved to drink beer, get fat and throw darts. Very sad he's battled depression his whole .. Things might have been different for him

He was very good and IMO borderline great but not quite. He lost twice in convincing fashion to top 35 ATG’s but other than that was top notch. A shame that we never got to see Hatton vs Cotto that might answer or give us a clearer picture of just how good he was or wasn’t. For me I would favor Hatton at 140 and Cotto at welter. I also agree with Seamus above in regards to Cortez. Reiterating that Hatton still would not have won, but that Cortez did not really allow Hatton to utilize his strengths.

    He was a good fighter.

I'd hesitate to say "very good", as my standards for "very good" might be higher than some.

Cortez had nothing to do with him getting taken apart by Floyd. He was simply in over his head against a much better fighter.

Hatton loses to Floyd 100/100 times regardless of who is the ref.

And Hatton fan boys have some nerve complaining about refs, considering it was Mickey Vann who let Ricky get away with ANY TACTICS he wanted in the UK, especially during the Tszyu fight.

So it'd be quite hypocritical to bring up ref favoritism when discussing Hatton.

Ricky was too flawed and too limited to be considered "very good" IMO.

Once again, can't have it both ways.

The ref played a major role in Hatton's biggest WIN against Tszyu... so maybe the Floyd fight was his karma.

Lol I agree about both ways and there is validity to your point and/or the Tszyu side. Although in fairness I don’t recall Tszyu complaining about the rough house tactics (but maybe he did later?). But as a fan or appreciator of Hatton and guys like Fullmer and to a lesser degree Ward at least I am consistent in recognizing fighters using those tactics to their advantage and skill set.

Hatton wasn't that dirty against Tszyu. Yeah, he held and was rough, but I don't remember consistent fouls. The problem with Cortez is that he refereed the Castillo and Mayweather bouts differently. Like most others, I don't think he wins, but he was quicker than just about anyone at closing the distance against Mayweather and it would have been nice to see Hatton bang on the inside more.

For my money Hatton was definitely a good fighter, quick hands and feet, tremendous stamina, gritty, had some nuance to his game, and was the most versatile body puncher I've ever seen. I'm not labeling him the best, mind you, but his angles and diversity were fantastic.

Good but overrated. Well, maybe not so much now, but a lot of people seemed to think he was going to beat FMJ and Pac.

Lol, at least I will admit to being one of those people, yes I picked him both times....anyway, yes he was overrated at the time by me and others...I would also say he has drifted towards underrated or unappreciated in recent days
