Boxing was definitely more exciting when he was active, win or lose.

Whats not too like? Hes a character of menace a short guy with a bloated look of a guy you could trust...particularly if its dark outside and he has a few in him. Hes a real life Leprauchan ( the movie) Type horror character. He will attack on site and ask wheres his gold. If your lucky he will attack you in public and slightly pummel you and just go home and call it a night.

Dont let those day time interviews fool you Ricky is always on the prowl seeking a self indulged vengeance for his boxing losses. the hit Man always ready to pounce on unsuspecting victims. Just run or go home if you see him playing darts in his Pub....thats a clear sign hes gettiing ready.

I never liked him. I don't like his fake humility and I don't particularly like boxers who get fat and drink alcohol when they don't have fights. It brings bad image to the sport. I was glad when I saw his demise. Boxing deserves to have only the most disciplined and the most ascetic athletes on top.

I never understood why people want athletes to be humble and friendly. I want athletes to be ruthless and bloodthirsty like Andre Ward. I often rooted against him because I'll always support my people over other fighters but boy do I love Ward's character and his "win at any cost" mentality. For me, he is the perfect athlete when it comes to mental characteristics and he's the total opposite of Hatton.

I felt the same way about Ricky Hatton: I always thought there was something slightly awry with him, personality-wise.

On the one hand, here is a guy casting himself in the role of the everyman done good; yet on the other hand -- post-Tszyu at least -- he would frequently refer to himself in the third person when doing interviews. Baffling.

'man of the people' 'salt of the earth'...etc etc. he always came across as a total bellend.

his own family dont even speak to him anymore. which is a shame obviously, but he hardly seems to be the most stable character

Yep, don't believe the fake "man of the people" rubbish. He treats the people around him like crap and is really tight with his money. Why do you think he fell out with everyone?

Even if it is fake humility (which isn't the worst characteristic in the world), at least the guy can laugh at himself and make jokes to please other people.

    Some people are harsh.

Ricky hattons quality imo. Lost sight of himself a bit back there...even today hes not really fully came out the other side yet. He probably was the man of the people but he ended up concentrating on it a bit too much. I think the pressure of it all to live up to the tag constantly got a bit too much for him in the end.

Should have just dropped it...and got on with being himself. Fame at that level with change everyone...your better off just accepting it and trying to not veer off track too much.

Say what you want about hatton he never missed a weigh in. He,d get grossly out of shape but he was a very very hard worker in the gym when it was time. His fitness was never really an issue...in the ring he would work for 3 minutes a round. He just came up against guys that will go down as all time greats in mayweather and pacman.
