Ricky Hatton admits he is still not feeling the hunger needed for a return to the ring.

Former two-weight world champion Hatton - who has not fought since being knocked out inside two rounds by Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas last May - appeared to end speculation he was about to retire in January by announcing his intention to make a comeback this year.

However, since then reports have suggested the 31-year-old is set to go back on that decision, and Hatton said on Wednesday: "I don't mind getting beaten by Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr and people like that, but I'd hate to go into a training camp with my heart not fully in it and risk getting beaten by somebody who shouldn't be beating me. So until that hunger comes back, that fire in the belly - that is when I will make my decision."

Hatton has been focussing on promoting in the mean time and was speaking in Wigan ahead of his show there on Friday, which is topped by Denton Vassell's bout with Lee Purdy for the vacant Commonwealth welterweight title.

'The Hitman' also has younger brother Matthew - who recently became European welterweight champion - within his Hatton Promotions stable, but asked if he had set a time-limit on making a decision on his own fighting future, he said: "Not really, no.
"One day I might come in the gym and say 'let's give it a go.'
"I'm enjoying my time seeing my mates and my fighters, and my brother winning the European title the other week. If Denton can take this Commonwealth title - that's the reason why I went into promoting in the first place, so I'm enjoying that side of the game.
"It's only been 10 months since the (Pacquiao) fight - I wouldn't really call that retirement.

"But as any fighter will tell you, you have got to have that hunger to carry on with the training, and until that comes back, I'm going to continue what I'm doing."

What was it Marvin Hagler said? Difficult to slip out from between silk sheets at 5am to do your roadwork.

I suppose that's doubly true if you're full of Guiness and Lamb Bhuna.

i think he should stay retired, last thing he wants is coming back to be remembered as an opponent for someone else to make their name from, which could well happen.

imagine if Kostya Tszyu had kept on fighting, he could have lost multiple times, instead he got out and is well remembered. he went on just one fight too many, maybe ricky has done the same. theres no shame in stopping on a loss, especially when its to Pacman

Even lower than his 10-second, non-speaking Shameless cameo? Surely not.

He'll probably do a Naz, he'll still be claiming he isn't retired in 8 years time...

**** or get off the pot.

I used to be a big fan of Hatton but have steadily been going off him the past three years or so as his ''man of the people'' persona has disappeared and a self centred joker with the world's biggest ego has emerged.

If you are going to comeback, do so. If you are going to retire, retire.

Even the most hesitant individual can make up their minds in a year.

I think he's gone, congrats on a good career, but let's leave it there.

Let us concentrate on Froch, Haye and the up and comers we have :deal

He'll embarrass himself if he comes back now. Not that he isn't already doing that with his antics outside the ring...but nevertheless I could see a loss to a bum in his future if he returns. He's waited too long, he's got ridiculously out of shape even by his standards and if the hunger isn't there after a year I can't see how it ever will be.

He'd kill himself getting back down to any sort of decent weight. He'd have to fight some joke fight, like when Mayorga and Vargas fought at super middle or something. Maybe he could fight Chavez Jr.

What do you reckon he could make without risking permanent damage - if it isn't done already?

    154?
