Theres been so much **** spoken and written over this fight that never was.

Those for Hatton say Junior Witter was all talk and never really put in a serious offer and was never serious about negoations for a fight.

Those for Witter say - Hatton just didnt want no part of such a dangerous fight - and made excuse after excuse as to why the fight could never happen - it wasnt worth the risk of losing and ****ing up his career momentum and gravy train - not to mention the personal humilation of losing to a bitter North England rival.

Whatever the reasons or excuses -

Wether Hatton bottled out of it

Wether Witter was bluffing and he didnt want it

Or wether they both secretly didnt want it

This fight never took place - because two fighters

Ricky Hatton and Junior Witter - never came to a agreement to fight each other

We were deprived of a geniune British showdown between rivals with dislike for each other

People looking back - will hold Hatton and Witter in lower esteem as they never stepped up and faced each other

in the same tradtion as the likes of

    Benn V Eubank

    Enzo V Haye

    Calzaghe V Reid

    Lewis V Bruno

So all we can do is speculate what would have happened

In the ultimate British poll - the Brit Forum can now speak and say what it would have believed would have happened

    if

Prime for Prime - Hatton V Witter - fought each other ..................

    What/When/Was Witter's prime?

Running away from Judah or getting floored by Bradley?

I think Witter got the power to crack Hattons chin though.

Bradley better chin than Hatton - IMO of course.

You did say prime, if hatton walks through tszyu's right hand, i'm sure he can walk through witter, who imo just has above average power, and i like hatton's power over witter's.....witter i think makes it the full 12 though.

This is the problem. That 14 KO stretch was against a string of guys who could noto do anything more than pull their pants up. I honestly don't think any of those fighters would have made the world top 50. When he finally took a step up in class after about 5 years, the KOs mysteriously dried up, with 4 straight distance fights against Ndou, Kotelnik, Lynes and Corley. IMHO Witter's power is no more than decent at world level. He is an excellent bully of fighters who are clearly out of their depth. However, it was the step up in class which has been responsible for his difficulties over the past 4 years.

If they fought, Hatton bullies him around the ring to a 116-112 decision as Jeff says. Witter would probably take some rounds as Magee did with his sharp work and I do factor in that Hatton has had some problems with awkward southpaws. However, I don't think Witter's workrate is consistant enough to match the Hatton of that period. His crafty defence would take it the distance, but Hatton would be able to work him over with heavy body shots.

As regards holding them in lower esteem because they never faced each other, the whole episode will rate no more than a foot note in Hatton's history. He has the PPV megafights with Mayweather and Pac, the wins over p4p top 10 fighters like Tszyu and Castillo, the successful trips to America versus other good title holders like Malignaggi, Collazo and Urango to look back on. By contrast, Witter will be held in lower esteem because Hatton would have been the best name on his record by an absolute mile.

I'm not sure about that. If we leave aside the Witter fight for a moment, the only guy he ever fought who could crack at world level put him on his ass twice.

No doubt Hatton has had the more successful career - overall

I mean just in British Boxing Talk - people will always note Hatton never fought Witter

On the world stage - Hatton is far the more successful

I think Witter has shown he can 'survive' in a losing encounter and therefore Hatton would have to settle for a points win.

Hatton would be WAY too fast, busy and relentless for Witter though and would more or less shut him out.

I very much doubt people will look back on Hattons career and reflect on this fight.

Hatton has fought (and beaten) so many men who achieved more than Witter. Witter has only fought one guy remotely of Hatton's class and he set his career back years in doing so.

They shouldn't even really be mentioned in the same breath, the disparity is so large.

it will be remembered that this fight didn't happen and why, because Wicky couldn't find his balls and was scared of losing to Witter. The excuses changed down the years, but this underlying fact didn't. The excuses became laughable and exposed Hatton for the 2-faced fake he is.
I pick Witter by TKO......similar to the way Pacman got his 'TKO' over Hatton
still can't believe that is officially a TKO and not a KO.

I can't see how Witter wins.

His power at B class is very overrated, he never stopped or hurt any of his best opponents, Harris aside.

He ain't gonna be landing regularly on Hatton, because he doesn't have the workrate to do it.

Witter takes rounds off and never really fights for 3 minutes, so he'll lose plenty of rounds to Hatton.

Bradley beat him with pressure and he's not as good as Hatton, nor is he as relentless as Hatton.
