Hatton was dishonest about the Witter fight

He said he would fight him

And then invented new excuses for it not to happen

    Why could he just say

"Look I'm on a winning streak - I'm getting paid well bashing up overmatched fighters for the WBU - I keep winning - I been promised big paydays against the World elite - last thing I want is risk the humilation of losing to a tosser like Junior Witter who could well beat me and ruin it all"

Precisely. So why set the guy up for life with a fight which does not mean much to you either in financial or career terms. Witter himself is a diffferent case, he could have got paid a lot more for fighting someone half decent but chose to stick with the five year bum of the month tour.

    Spot on!!!

Everytime Witter would fulfill his "requirement" he would then shift the goalposts. Whether it was becoming more exciting, or winning a world title, each time Hatton would come up with something else. And if all else failed, he would fall back onto his second tier of excuses which were truely miserable. Involving awards ceremonies, personal dislikes (wow..in boxing ) and other such bollocks.

See my Hatton list of excuses and quotes thread, it truely is quite the comical read. It's a tough ask to defend that, I give these Hatton fans all the credit in the world

Witter said he would take the fight for cheap purse.

And if he wasnt in Hatton's class - whats the problem.

Ricky had no problem fighting British rival - Stephen Smith.

Hatton dont like the guy - fine - all the more reason to beat him up.

Can you imagine every fighter refused to fight a fighter they hated to deny him a payday.

    Boxing would dry up.

Boxing and hype - is built on grudge matches.

    Benn V Eubank, etc

Can you imagine Benn refused to fight Eubank cos he didnt want to give him a payday.

This is a business -its about making money - fighting each other.

Are you doing the same with Witter? At the time he fought them Hatton has Zoo and 2 "arguables" in Paulie and Urango. Witter doesn't even have any "arguables" that are better than Hatton, and if anyone mentions Harris or N;Dou.......:patsch;)

Why did he fight Jon Thaxton, Eamon Magee, Stephen Smith and hop over Junior?

Use the "he disliked him", I dare ya. Makes me laugh out loud everytime.

To say Hatton was scared of Witter is doing a disservice to Tszyu, Mayweather and Pacquaio.

And Flint one fighter.....off the top of my head which is light years better than Witter is.....Tszyu, and im a Tszyu nuthugger.

People slate Hatton for beating Maussa as a gimme fight, yet in the same breath rant about the "great" victory over Harris by Witter, its laughable.

Witters best win was probably against a B-level former champion in Harris.

Tszyus best win was against a HOF albeit on the slide Tszyu.

As for the prime for prime match up i think its a case of Witter fans wanting to believe he was/is half as good as they dreamed he was.

Hatton is better in every department, and even up there with his punching power which whilst not 1 punch ko, it was very hurtful.

Who has Witter ko'd who was on the level of JLC or Tszyu, hell even Ray Oliviera (who lets not forget beat Harris) ?

No one as a previous poster said, Witters ko's dried up when he stepped up in class, and he never even stepped up into the elite of the division, and the first time he fought a guy who actually come to win he lost.

    Game over.

Urango wasn't an arguable anything "at the time he fought him". Urango was a complete nobody, a Prescott.

Only since then has he beat Vilches and Ngoudjo, and fought Berto.

Its just a question of confidence.

    Not really about Witter's C.V

Just had Hatton proven to himself that he could take care of Witter.

Zoo was a good win - and that would have boosted his confidence.

But the fight should have taken place before then anyway.

Paulie better than Witter - :-(

    Witter is more dangerous -

Didnt Warren offer the Magee fight to Witter for the winner to fight Hatton and Witter pulled out or refused:think

So does that mean Witter was scared/avoiding Magee?

Theres a window in 2004 there where the Witter fight would have been a cr@cker but ultimately Hatton went after the main man Zoo and the American casino fights and who can really blame him?

Scared of Witter - is probaly the wrong word.

More scared of the risk of humilation if he were to lose to Witter than Witter himself.

Why didnt Hatton just shout everyone up = like me and other people - and fight Witter.

Now people are going to always say - "why didnt Hatton fancy the Witter fight?"
