http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/ma...rView&xml=/sport/2007/12/04/uboxhatton204.xml Ricky Hatton is already being lined up to fight Oscar De La Hoya at Wembley Stadium in front of 80,000 spectators next year, according to the fighter's lawyer Gareth Williams. The Mancunian will face De La Hoya irrespective of whether he defeats world No 1 pound-for-pound fighter Floyd Mayweather in the WBC welterweight superfight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena here on Saturday night. Should Hatton pull off the victory as a firm underdog against the American, for which he will earn £10 million, a fight with De La Hoya would crown a glorious homecoming and could break all box office records for a fight in the United Kingdom. Gareth Williams, Hatton's lawyer, explained: "The chances are very strong. We have strong links with Golden Boy and Oscar De La Hoya and we have had discussions with them about fighting Oscar in London at Wembley." "It would be the perfect venue and it is widely anticipated we would sell over 80,000 tickets. If you look at what Oscar's achieved in his career he has done everything bar fighting in Britain and holding the record live gate. Being realistic, he's not going to achieve that in the United States and he could achieve it if he fought in the UK against Ricky Hatton. "The belief is we could get 80,000 or 90,000 people so it wouldn't be a 3am fight. We'd be looking to do it possibly on a Sunday evening. You'd get the money from TV and from the massive gate. And you would do it in a way in which the Americans would buy into it. They've got a tradition of watching sport on Sunday afternoons such as the Super Bowl, so we could do it that way." Hatton will claim the richest purse of his career when he attempts to rip Mayweather's WBC welterweight title from him in his own backyard. The showdown is expected to gross close to £60m pounds, with pay-per-view buys anticipated at around 1.5 million, which would bring in over £40m pounds. In the UK, Sky Box Office are also screening the fight on pay-per-view with around 400,000 buys expected, which would bring in over £6m. Within 30 minutes of going on sale, 16,000 tickets to see the fight live at the MGM Grand were bought up. Cortez takes charge Ringside seats are now trading hands for as much as $10,000 each. Another 20,000 seats have also been sold in casino-hotels on the Vegas strip where the fight is being screened - and so far 18,000 tickets have been sold worth around £500,000. Should Hatton win, it will arguably go down as the greatest victory by a British fighter on American soil. Joe Cortez, considered by the boxing fraternity as the world's leading referee, will take charge of Saturday's fight.
Win or lose against Mayweather, Ricky would be insane to agree to this. He should drop back down to LWW and try to unify the division rather than take part in these ridiculous exhibition fights. I personally, have no interest in watching Ricky fight someone he has no business fighting in the first place when he could be smashing Malignaggi (for instance) around the ring in the same packed arena.
I'd happily throw it away if it meant I didn't have to get my ass kicked in my home country. He could fight Junior Witter in England and make a tonne of money with the added bonus that he might actually win. I'm a huge Hatton fan, but DLH/Hatton is a blatant mismatch.
but if Hatton loses two fights in a row and possibly in a brutal fashion at the hands of DLH, what then will become of his career?
They better have this fight where it belongs, in a circus! Can you imagine Oscar trying to make 147lbs :rofl :rofl :rofl Looking like one of the Olson twins
They were child actors who played the little girl on 'Full House', which was a popular tv show in america. Everyone thought they were gonna grow up to be hot, but they turned out to be mal-nurished, coke-head, dwarfs :yep
Wednesday December 5, 2007 The Guardian Ricky Hatton's reward for shattering the unbeaten record of Floyd Mayweather would be a triumphant Wembley homecoming against Oscar De La Hoya. Hatton's lawyer, Gareth Williams, has confirmed that talks are already at an advanced stage for the fight. The news will provide another massive incentive for Hatton, who is desperate to fight back in Britain as a reward to thousands of supporters who have once again followed him across the Atlantic. THIS MAKES ME THINK A LITTLE BIT. DO THEY ( Mayweather, Hoya, Hatton and HBO) KNOW SOMETHING WE DO NOT?
What do you mean? That Mayweather would let Hatton win...for...what? A share of the Hatton - Hoya fight money? Or that Ricky would let Floyd win to get the big money from Hoya? :huh
