Ortiz stops Hatton in the late rounds. He would have the better at a distance and match Ricky's work in close, and would eventually start tagging Hatton with frequency in the late rounds, finishing him off with a furious, seemingly endless flurry of punches.
Not sure thats true at all but footspeed is as much important in landing first as handspeed, otherwise old Roy Jones would still be unbeatable
Don't be unsure...im telling you he's slower with greater certainty here.have trust. I dont disagree about the need for good legs as well as quick hands, but i think reflexively Hatton is the lesser fighter in most areas, made worse by him being also the leser technically.
Oh come on PP...both Tsyzu and Castillo had slowed significantly, to the point they are barely significant in this debate. Jose was so battle weary and I think having trouble with the weight, he is even less so. Ortiz is a completely different fight to the versions of those guys...Even in their primes he was better, he was the better more versatile boxer and had less glaring weaknesses. Tszyu struggled with Hatton because he needs punching room..and he didnt have the tools left to prevent Ricky from robbing him of it. Nor the reflexes to get away with his wide open stance. Ortiz was an excellent fighter up close. He threw short, precise hooks with the best of them even troubling the likes of Locche with them. Its not like Ricky danced around either of them and used his footspeed to the extent you want to make out...His mauling up close is where he got his best work done. Speed can be overcome...As lora pointed out Ortiz may be faster than Ricky in most departments anyway. Just because Carlos' feet may not look as quick, doesnt mean this is some kind of liability. He had far better economy of movement and technical skill in this regard. Basically he could do what Ricky does and better, by moving around less.
They both fought at 140...but in carlos time they weighed in the day of the fight did they not? Prime Hatton would be a good bit bigger...
