Even amongst Hatton fans like myself, you will not see him picked very often at 147 especially against the caliber of Curry. At 140 most will dismiss him against top notch, but at least I can see him holding his own there.
Lmao! No way in Holy Hell is fragile, undersized Hatton going 12 with a prime Curry Curry inside of 4. It would be a brutal stoppage too.
I think Hattons fast feet coming in will spell trouble for Don just like in the Honeyghan fight, Ricky landed some good shots on Floyd early on and I don`t tin Don would like fighting at that pace, I heard Frank Warren say he never like Curry because after four rounds he was done because he struggled at the weight and had a blood illness that effected him in later rounds, Curry went 12 rounds really well v Starling but that doesn`t mean there wasn`t something in what Warren was saying, Starling wasn`t a great body puncher like Hatton and didn`t keep the pressure on Don like Honeyghan did and how Hatton would, I feel Hatton will be more successful in this one as the fight went on, also his head movement wass better than Curry`s as he came in, Curry`s head was often too central and he would pull his head back away from shots which is how McCallum caught him, straight shots can exploit this tactic even though it was a hook Mike caught Curry with, Hatton`s reach wouldn`t help him land straight shots this way however, but he did land straight shots on Floyd who was far better defensively than Curry, however Curry had a better reach than Floyd I think and his jab might be too much for Hatton because of that reach, great fight one way or the other, to get things in perspective though, I feel Hatton was a better fighter than Colin Jones but Jones might have stopped him because of his power and look what Curry did to him, having said that Curry`s defense was very lax in that bout and Jones was able to catch him quite a bit. I feel Manny was better than Curry at 147 and had the style to destroy Don like Honeyghan did, so I don`t see a blow out like the Manny fight for Hatton here.
Just had another look at Floyd v Hatton and Ricky was really open to the left hook because as he came in he droppped his right shoulder to get the right head movement, Floyd also knocked Ricky out with a hook, so Curry could have landed the type of hook he landed on McCrory early, maybe, and Curry had very quick hands.
The prime Curry of between '83 to '86 would have destroyed Hatton. It wouldn't have gone beyond 5 rounds.
Curry went 15 rounds twice. He was hardly "a four round Fighter" in his prime. "Hatton had better head movement than Curry. " Very debatable but Curry had a much better overall defense than Hatton, at least in his 147 lb prime. Hatton was better at 140 than he was at 147. And pound for pound 147 Curry was better than 140 Hatton. 147 Curry was a few levels above 147 Hatton.
Curry did parry shots well with his gloves. He was certainly better at fighting than talking, damn, I just heard him in an interview, he was awful.
Hatton would get stopped by Jones at welter. Ricky was terrible as a welter. Really 0-2 at the weight. How quickly people forget he got a gift over Collazo. Curry would annihilate him.
