He wouldn't of made any money, the reason Witter never got a shot was he never sold tickets.

at that time I thought witter, and it should have happened, but after seeing witter nullify himself a couple of years later, I now wonder if ricky might have given him a beaten!

Witter would have knocked Ricky out. Hatton could never handle southpaw angles, just look at his epic failure against Pacquaio and to a lesser extent Collazo.

No the reason was because Hatton wanted to avoid the dangerous contenders on his way to the top before cashing out against the biggest names. Hatton ducked Witter for 7 years, Hatton-Witter would sell plenty more than Hatton versus the numerous bums he faced

Witter was about 35 and past his best against Bradley and Alexander though

I'm not so sure Witter would have beaten Ricky but Team Hatton certainly avoided him...not a stupid move though.

I love Hatton and miss the excitement he and his traveling fans brought to the sport of boxing! Unfortunately he has fallen on hard times and recieves such harsh criticism, for losing 2 fights to top tier opponents that he is now labled a bum rather than applauded for trying to fight the best out there oppossed to many other boxers.

He is in the unenviable position of being called a bum because of his 2 loses. He likely could have protected his 0 and been called a protected boxer unwilling to go to the states and fight the best...either way he can't win on the juvenile boxing forum boards....

However in this fight he not only can win, but completely dominates. Either a lopsided decision or a broken Witter is stopped 10+....but then he would be labled a protected bum had he beaten Witter, rather than the exposed bum many lable him as.

Witter, after knocking out Harris would have beaten Hatton in all likelihood because Hatton was looking towards Mayweather whereas Witter was looking towards Hatton.

for witter it was all about the Hatton fight and a man that hungry who is equally as skilled as the opponent, I gotta look at him as the favourite.

Circa 2001, W*arren simply didn't want the fight. Witter couldn't sell tickets and the risk outweighed the reward. W*arren wanted the gravy train to remain intact, he wasn't confident Ricky could beat Witter, so the match didn't happen.

I have no idea if Hatton shared the same view as W*arren, but I suspect Hatton had his doubts too as he didn't appear to push for the match.

I think W*arren's view was that if Hatton could sell out the MEN against the likes of John Bailey (no disrespect intended but Bailey was no Witter), why take a chance against Witter? Ricky's fans will say he didn't avoid Witter because he boxed Mayweather, but it's not as simple as that. He boxed Mayweather because that was the pot of gold fight - if he fought and lost to Witter the Mayweather fight would have gone up in smoke.

Anyway, back to the fight. My view is that Witter wins. His use of angles, reflexes, good boxing brain and sharp, slashing punches are all wrong for Hatton imo...I don't think Witter would knock Hatton out, because I think the cuts come first; I believe Hatton's skin would let him down before any knockout.

Witter in 6-8 rounds, on cuts in a fight Ricky would be losing anyway. Witter was all wrong for Ricky, Witter knew it, W*arren knew it, Ricky in all likelihood suspected...

No I don't for one second think hatton was scared of witter or ever contemplated the idea he'd lose.

There's a pretty good case that hatton never beat anyone as good as the witter who knocked out harris.

I believe money is the reason. But I think they were wrong. The wba, ibf, ring and wbc unification fight would have been huge and much bigger than hatton v maussa was.

But i've no doubt hatton would have looked beyond witter and lost.

    :deal

Well ****ing said on all counts. Ricky Hatton ducked Junior Witter for 8 years, and used a plethora of lamentable excuses for doing so. The facts are these no matter what Hatton says... Hatton was number 1 and Witter number 2 in the world at one point, Junior was WBC champ, based on that alone the fight should have happened. It WOULD have been massive in Britain, Witter was prepared to do anything to make it happen and Ricky just wouldn't entertain it. Some champion that is.

If he had fought Witter in his young days, he wouldn't have got the chance to fight mayweather or any other top fighter because the road would have ended there and then.

When he fought Juan Lazcano instead of Junior Witter for the WBC belt...and gave the excuse that 'Witter hadn't fought anyone' 'and didn't deserve a payday' I knew from then on that Ricky Hatton was nothing but a fraud.

yeah but it's supposed to be a SPORT and not just a business, and the Governing Body - BBBofC, is allowed & supposed to demand & dictate for the Champion & TOP Contender to meet!!!

The question wass what would have happened if he would have fought him instead of Mayweather, he was fighting top guys at that time, and beating them.

The fight should have been made but you'[ve got to say with the benefit of hindsight Hatton woulld have won. Witter was good but he fluffed his 2 biggest fights ( Judah and Bradley ), i reckon he would have done the same vs Hatton. On points, Hatton.

This is getting silly!!! Hatton was on a different level to witter the same way pac-man and mayweather were on a different level to ricky. Would have been an easiesh night for hatton and suspect witter would have went into his shell if they did fight. People who know boxing know this!!!
