Man I remember when this fight was red hot, but they were all "we'll make this one for more money at a later date." Of course it never happened.
Awesome fight with Cotto eating some uppercuts on the inside but winning convincingly on a late stoppage, if not a unanimous decision. Boxing behind the jab and banging to the body & finishing on top with a left hook repeatedly would have Ricky wobbly by/around the 9th.
Cotto was so drained at 140, plus he'd never like fighting at this octane of pace, I'd give it to Hatton UD or stoppage after taking some bombs along the way
At 147 I would go with Cotto without as much as blinking an eye...at 140 you have a much more competitive fight. If I had to fall off the fence i would take Cotto in a very close decision (perhaps SD/MD), and might not be shocked by a late stoppage.
Cotto edges Hatton in a war at 140, Cotto beats up and stops Hatton at 147. Cotto is similar to Hatton, but he had better power, better jab, better variety to his game, and was bigger/stronger. Not a particularly good match-up for Hatton, though Ricky makes it hard for most people at 140.
At JW this is a very close matchup... I think Hatton takes an early lead and scores a knockdown along the way.. By the 4th Cotto is already getting through with big shots and scoring with his jab... By the midrounds this is a back and forth war, both repeatedly hurting eachother... By the 9th round Hattons face is a mess and hes getting tattoed and goes down and is saved by the bell. Doctor stops it before the 10th. At 147 its still a competetive fight early but Cotto wouldnt t be as hurt or bothered with Hattons power like at 140 and by the 5th or 6th is walking him down and hurting him.. ... Cotto ko 7 ,
