Roger Mayweather was a decent fighter at 140. He beat Vinny Pazienza easily in November of 1988. How would Ricky Hatton of 2009 fair against the Roger Mayweather of 1988 who fought Vinny.
Would be a good fight... Roger was no joke and had a killer right hand. He tended to lose the big ones though.
The reason this fight came up in my mind was because I was watching on youtube a few weeks ago Mayweather vs. Pazienza from Nov. of 1988 on the undercard of Leonard/Lalonde. Mayweather easily beat Pazienza in my mind. Mayweather just handled everything Pazienza did. After the fight Lou Duva for some reason rushed at Mayweather and Mayweather clocked him with a right hand knocking Lou down. When Lou got back up he had a cut on his cheek.
Mayweather had a great jab and fast hands, but he was always susceptible to pressure. You'd figure that someone like Mayweather would be more fleet of foot, but from what I've seen of Roger, he didn't use his legs as much as he should have. I think Hatton's quick feet and smothering style overwhelms Mayweather for a clear decision win or a late stoppage.
hatton isn't anything even close to prime Tszyu. Hatton has had trouble with ordinary guys, and Roger wasn't ordinary. I don't know if he'd win the fight, but it's a loooong night for Ricky either way.
don't count the black mamba out. if he caught ricky flush with that right it'd be lights out for ricky. if juan lazcano can hurt him, roger certainly stands a good chance. in all reality- hatton by close UD but there's also a chance for a late mayweather KO
Mayweather got KTFO in the first by Rocky Lockridge, and in the second by Julio C Chavez at 130. But he seemed more durable at 140, going 10 rounds with Chavez before succumbing. Hatton would do all the things Chavez did , roughing up Roger on the inside and body punching. But Hatton isn't quite the fighter Chavez was, and would probably have to survive a cut and a few rough patches before winning a fairly clear cut decision.
