For the record I feel if the two had ever crossed paths Judah would have out boxed him in the first 4 but Ricky would have kept the energy levels and work rate up to stop him later on. My question is though who was the greater fighter over all. For me both of these guys probably could have started off their careers at light weight and are also massively under rated today. Ricky Hatton - Notable wins and achievements. IBF lww x2, WBA lww, Ring lww, WBA ww Paulie Malinaggi - Won TKO 11, Ricky dominated the fight completly bullied and out classed his opponent in this one. Kostya Tszyu - Won RTD 11, in a great back and forth affair Tszyu was resigned to sit out the final round with Ricky Hatton on top. Vince Phillips - Won UD, great display from the "Hitman" to dominate all 12 rounds vs. a former champion. Carlos Maussa - Won KO 9, The Hitman dominated in this unification. Luis Collazo - Won UD 12, Very close fight which went Hatton's way on points. This was a prime Collazo, for me the knock down Hatton scored in the first was the difference. Juan Urango - Won UD 12, great display to win every round against a world champion. Jose Luis Castillo - Won KO 4, This was the first time the great Castillo was ever knocked to the canvas. Very impressive display from the Hitman. Juan Lazcano - Won UD 12, dominated pretty much every round over a tough former champ. Floyd Mayweather - Lost TKO 10, although he ended up a loser in this one he nicked 2-4 of the rounds which and really made Mayweather sweat almost knocking him down in the first. In the end he was worn down and stopped. Many felt Joe Cortez was very biased to Mayweather in this fight. Zab Judah - Notable wins and achievements. IBF lww x2, WBO lww, WBC ww, WBA ww, IBF ww, Ring ww. Junior Witter - Won UD 12, great display to out point a real slickster in Witter. DeMarcus Corley - Won SD 12, this was a prime version of Corley, not the Corley who turned up for a pay check later on in his career. Judah earned the WBO version of the title with this win after losing his IBF title to Kostya Tyszu. Rafael Pineda - Won SD 12, close win over a former champion. Pineda had won the IBF 10 years earlier vs. Roger Mayweather and lost it to Whittikar still had something left. Cory Spinks - Won TKO 9, great revenge win for "Super" Zab. This made him the undisputed welterweight champion holding the IBF, WBC and WBA titles. Floyd Mayweather - Lost UD 12, although Zab lost this he was arguabley the victim of very unfair officials. The score card's were wider than the actual fight and a clear knock down by Zab Judah went unscored and after 4 rounds Judah was dominating. At this point a worried Mayweather corner invaded the ring for several minutes which may have changed the momentum of the fight. Fighters like Carlos Molina have been DQ'd for this. Lucas Matthysse - Won SD - A great come back win from Judah to put himself on the map over an undeafeted Matthysse. So who do you feel over all was the greater fighter?
"...a clear knock down went unscored and after 4 rounds Judah was dominating. At this point a worried mayweather corner invaded the ring for several minutes which may have changed the momentum of the fight." really?? talk about misleading... I think what you meant to say was Judah was impressive for four rounds, but then did what everyone expected him to do, and he faded as mayweather began to dominate him. Judah then proceeded to exhibit the flaws that prevented him from fulfilling his huge natural ability throughout his career, losing his composure in the later rounds as he (Judah) appeared on the brink of being KO'd by Floyd, who was landing at will. Judah struck mayweather in the crown jewels and on the back of the head, prompting a protest from Floyd's corner, and a reaction from the Judah corner. the fight was delayed as the ring was cleared, but nothing could prevent Judah from losing a clear UD
i chose Judah for the fact that he was able to dominate two weight classes and unify the major belts at 147 with good contenders there while Hatton was able to only dominate one and not even unify the belts. He did get an abc belt at 147 but he didnt look like he would at 140. Resume-wise as well, Judah does have the better boxers while they were in their primes. Some major downfalls with Judah is he has no heart and gives up easily once he cannot pressure the boxer and they are catching him.
Some good points, but as regards Judah at welter, he did not unify the belts and he certainly didn't dominate the division. He won an already unified title from Cory Spinks, who he had previously lost to, defended it once and then lost it to Carlos Baldomir. He also lost pretty well every other big fight he had at the weight - Mayweather, Cotto, Clottey...
Zab ruined Quitto first. His mouth now bleeds everytime he fights and was robbed by Mercante and them low blows.
Zab won at least 3 of the first four, had a clear knock down dissallowed for no reason, Mayweather's corner invaded the ring for several minutes, which usually results in a DQ.
Ricky lost two 2 greats, and sechenko not included. judah lost not so greats like baldomir, spinks clottey. etc
Hatton had more impact in boxing but Judah has a better resume and accomplished more. Judah was a monster at 140 even with his loss to Zoo. When he moved up to 147, Cory Spinks was rated high up in the p4p lists before Judah knocked him out. He was on his way to becoming a superstar until his lackluster loss to Baldomir which was weird. Even after being shot, he still managed to win an ABC belt and a big win in Matthyse which I felt he won. Hatton was more consistent, but after getting his best win and first world belt, he went into a downward spiral. Definitely Judah.
That has nothing to do with anything. We're looking at what they both accomplished, not who they lost to.
They're both greats for me and it is close. I think it is close, real shame the two of them never fought.
well you have to take in account loses, hatton was an unbeaten beast when he fought mayweather. Judah seemed like a wasted talent with not much heart or go. when he did not much vs clottey and beaten by spinks. Id say hatton h2h at 140lbs was a greater fighter. Not to say judah couldnt of beat him.
