Pretty much agree. I'd put him as an A- fighter rather than a B+ but I can see the arguments. Also, maybe this is my Hatton tinted glasses, but the version of Tzsyu he beat was waaaaaaaaay better than the version of Castillo he beat. Dont think he gets the recognition he should for the Tzsyu win. Career best win of his and one of the best wins for any British champ in my opinion.
I can only speak for myself here but the reason why I don't give Hatton full credit for that fight is because I geniunly feel that Tzsyu simply tired. He, Tzsyu, people forget, was ahead, slightly, going into the 9th.
What made Zoo tire? Having to try and keep Hatton off him for 3 minutes of every round, you have to give Hatton credit for that surely?
I think he would. Tszyu right hand was neutralised because Hatton covered the distance and then he was mauled for 12 rounds. Hatton is bigger, stronger, quicker and more agile than Castillo. He'll move around him and keep chipping away until he goes. Same style as the real fights apply but they may do a touch better, if that. Hatton must get respect for what he did.
Yes, you do. But, and there will always be a but here, Tzsyu was a beast in the ring and, I believe, would have been able to see them last 4 rounds out when he was in his prime.
Exactly..........not underatted in the whatsoever. He had the ample chance to fight most of the other big name fighters around due to his popularity but chose to duck Jnr Witter which would have been a good fight. Only time he risked it was against Kosta, Mayweather and Pacman.....esentially had to risk it against kosta as people were starting to get fed up and im sure he wanted to test himself.......smart/ cherry picking for years untill a HUGE money fight with Mayweather where he did ok but got knocked out......Mayweather dosent normally knockout the best but he did with Hatton and got destroyed by pacman. Solid champion........but in the league of a John Ruiz
I didn't, it was pretty obvious to me he had the general public fooled. I think a lot of the hate aimed at him now is from people who were duped until recently....by which time it was too late and they'd already been ripped off by the fraud. His fighting style is sleep-inducing yet he always said he was up there with Duran, Chavez etc....basically all his chat is cringeworthy and he was oveerated as **** as a boxer. in pure boxing terms he was never any better than a David Diaz, John Ruiz or Vic Darchinyan.
I think he is vastly overated. Kirkland Laing beat Duran, Honeyghan beat Curry....you get the picture they also get very little credit. No big deal is it? At least Hatton made more money than these other boxers with not even half the talent they had.
I would say Hatton is B+ at worst, A- at best. I cant decide on overall rating. Now that the dust has settled on his career, Im man enough to tell it like it is. I may have hated Hatton, but I can respect his ring achievements in the cold light of day & give him the credit he deserves. Not that he needs me to do that, all anyone needs to do is look at his belt collection(minus WBU of course). & if he comes back, I still pick him to add another belt to his collection, hes not done yet IMO.
