Just wondering on peoples thoughts on how he will respond after his first defeat? Do you guys think he will come through Lazcano, Malinaggi/N'Dou and if the fight happens, Witter? Also how do you think he will fight? Will he try and go back to his pre-Tszyu fighting style where he was quicker on his feet darting in and out with quick head and body combinations and coming in with his jab (i actually thought he had quite an effective, underrated jab), or will he stick with his mauling, less effective, uglier post-Tszyu style? Personally i would prefare it if he goes back to his pre-Tszyu style. The way he faught against Ben Tackie and Ray Oliveira i think was Hatton at his very best. I understand he obviously looked better against these two weaker opponents but style-wise i believe this was Hatton at his best. But does Ricky have the speed, sharpness and stanima to go back to this style? He has looked more tired and less energetic in his more recent fights. Maybe the well documented life style he leads when not in training is finally starting to take effect. This new mauling, spoiling style i think is detrimental to Hatton. It was perfect against Tszyu; Hatton needed to stay close to Tszyu to help negate his opponents considerable punch power and by leaning on and ruffing up Tzsyu inside it helped wear down a much older fighter who had only faught 3 rounds in the previous 18 months. However it appears Hatton has stuck with this style for all his other fights and it has been to his downfall in my opinion. Im not really bothered that this new style is less fan-friendly (in my opinion you do what you got to do to win) but he appears to be smothering his own work when fighting inside (in-fighting for me, was the strongest weapon in Hattons arsenal Pre-Tszyu). Anyway, your thougts and opinions would be greatly appreciated.
He needs to go back to jabbing his way in. The mauling style he employed was perfect for Tszyu, neutralising Tszyu's power. The only problem is he seems to have stuck with it and it doesnt work with everyone (Joy). You are correct though in regards to Hattons jab, even though his reach is none exsistent it was a fast and powerful tool.
i dont think the loss will weight on him to much,i agree id like to see him go back to the pre tszyu approach¬ pressure for pressures sake.on his day he beats EVERYONE at 140.
I cant see Lazcano proving to be any problem at all, this is a confidence builder for Ricky after his last defeat. I'd be more interested in how he'd fare against Malignaggi. Both versions of Hatton would KO him prior to PBF fight, I'm curious whether the defeat has taken any of the wind out of his sails. I'm hoping he gets back to his prime though and cleans up light-welter
Lazcano would prob be the best fight for Hatton to take style wise in a comback. IMO. He could brawl, and we all know the Hispanic Causing Panic is gonna be coming foward aswell, he won't be hard to find. - Hatton needs to work on his pressure, and how to cut off the ring against Runners/Boxers. also his confidence might need a lil' shot in the arm so a brawl against a Juan Laz could be the best thing for him. But... a Mallinaggi fight IMO would be a style nightmare for Hatton (Pre Tszyu included) Ricky stay away from this clown at all cost. although I would love to see Ricky beat Paulie into bit's, I see Paulie bringing his best Marion Jones impression. Stick to fighting brawlers Hatton. (The Magicman will bore us to death)
Paddy, i can't see Lazcano causing to much problems either but i am a bit worried about Malinaggi. Paulie wouldn't hurt Ricky but he is tough and would take everything Ricky threw at him; anyone who can take what Cotto threw at Paulie is hard as nails in my book. But i can see Malinaggis quick feet and hands causing Ricky problems. If Ricky can't cut the ring of as quick as he used to then Mallinaggi could pot shot him and build up a points lead. Plus, if Ricky does manage to cut of the ring but smothers his own work inside it could be a closer than expected fight. Although i do think a pre-Tszyu Hattton beats the **** out of the arrogant *****.
Hatton on his day would destroy Malignaggi at LWW as far as I'm concerned. I agree that the he done well to go the distance with Cotto in what turned into a really brutal fight. But I would see a Hatton fight going the same way, provided Ricky hasnt lost too much in defeat. Its always a concern for an undefeated fighter to lose his '0', I suppose the advantage for Hatton is that its happened at this stage so he should be mature enough to handle it! My only concern against Malignaggi would be cuts. At LWW Hatton is more prone to cuts and Malignaggi's pitter patter style would be prime for cutting Hatton. For me though, its the confidence factor that I'm most interested in. Hopefully, Ricky comes back as strong as ever and walks through Lazcano to put him back in the right mindset!
