Hatton was beaten before he even got to the ring like many more Floyd oppponents. Cortez never gave him a chance. Every time Hatton attacked Cortez yelled break
The straw that broke the camels back was the point deducted from Hatton when Floyd ducked his head threw the ropes to avoid Hatton & Hatton hit the top rope. Cortez took the point for what he called a blow to the back of the head ROFL

I’ll concede that with a different ref Hatton would’ve been slightly more competitive, but by no means was he ever going to win. Guys tended to bring their A games when facing Mayweather, which is the reason a few of them had more success than ppl expected.

The way i see it is, if Hatton was allowed to do his work the same way Maidana was in his first fight with Mayweather, it would have been a good deal more competitive. Mayweather still would have won but, he would have most definately have earned it as oppose to relying on his tag team partner (Cortez) to tip the balance

I don't think I gave Hatton 1 round, if anything it's overrated by some.

Floyd - The older he gets the better he was ...

Hatton vs Floyd on most peoples cards was close to level after 8 fast rounds. Floyd the naturally bigger man was wearing Hatton down with pot shots and holding in close.

Floyds natural size difference was the turning point in round 8 and Hatton was knocked out by a combination of a great checked left hook, the turn buckle and fatigue in round 10.

After this fight Hatton was never the same and Manny beat the shell of what was left.

At 140 Floyd doesn't have the same physical strength to hold Hatton off and its a lot closer than people think.

    Personally I thought Hatton was 0 - 2 at 147.

Floyds best performance could never be against a bum plain and simple.

Wrong. Hatton had the size advantage by close to ten pounds. The fight would play out exactly the same if they dried out to 140.

Hatton's career benefitted from having a huge support that helped him get two mega-fights, whilst leapfrogging a lot of the divisions he fought in.

What I mean is, Hatton's CV looks good in that the only 2 to beat him in his prime are 2 Hall of Famers. But this flatters him somewhat.

Hatton was an entertaining, aggressive top 10-15 type fighter, who would have been beaten by a number of others too, if he'd been forced to face them.

    Should've lost officially to Collazo.

He had an aggressive, pressing style that was dynamite against overmatched opponents but a disaster against opponents who could either counter it tactically (Mayweather), or fight back (Pac).

I remember the build up the Pac fight because I was the only one of 2 in our group of mates in the pub who said he's going to get brutally KO'd here. Prime Pac was as aggressive as Hatton but infinitely more dextrous and talented. It was a horrible match up where the inevitable conclusion was realised, bang on cue.

Anyone who blames Cortez really needs to rewatch this fight. While Cortez was breaking them quick in the first few rounds, he absolutely allowed them to fight it out and wrestle and even then Floyd beat Ricky at his own game. Floyd was simply too strong for Hatton to pull his usual routine and this is also when Floyd began sneaking in some good body shots that would ultimately assist in the undoing of the courageous Hatton.

Agreed. I always felt that Mr. Firm But Fair got an undeservedly bad rap for this one. That isn't to say he didn't screw up pretty badly on some other nights, but here the ire was largely sour grapes.

I agree...but I don't think your post's validity contradicts that of the one you quoted. :nusenuse:
