I think is a HOF candidate - likeable guy who came to fight.

Boxing on paper makes you like a star - will always have a win over Tszyu. I hate the fact that Tszyu had a loss on the record to Hatton because he was limited but you know how it goes in boxing. Right night, right fight.

being mad at cortez is like me being mad at the ref for taking floyds elbow out the mix vs castillo in there 1st fight
it sucked he didnt get to use the weapon much but it made him better he can now fight without it if he needs too
you know no holding goin on w cortez he always takes points he is the strictest ref in the biz you want no hold bars its in the octagon

My view is that Ricky went from being overrated to now being underrated. His only 2 losses were to the 2 best fighters of his era in/around his weight class and there is certainly no shame in that. I give him credit for taking the tough fights in an era where so many do not.

But, I do not agree with the idea that Cortez is responsible in any way for his loss vs Mayweather. Ricky's ugly punch/rush/hold/wrestle style was tolerated far too long and by far too many refs during his career. It made many of his fights frustrating and nearly unwatchable.

Having recently rewatched PBF/Hatton, this fight was going down that road for 2 or 3 rds. Cortez allowed the holding and wrestling and PBF's elbow plenty until it became apparent that the fight would consist of nothing else until he put a stop to it. It is then that you saw the separation of skills in the 2 fighters.

Ricky should go into the HOF IMO.

Your 2nd and 3rd paragraphs are logical and succinct, but your 1st paragraph states that Hatton only has 2 losses to the best fighters of his generation.I know his official record states that, but anyone that saw the Collazo fight-and on a lesser note, the Lazcano fight-would have issues with that. Not only was the 1st round knockdown from the result of typical Hatton dirty tactics as Collazo was off-balance pulling away from Hatton's holding his head while throwing a punch, but Hatton was absolutely reeling at the end of that fight from light-punching Collazo.Hatton reminds me of an American that in his day was a beloved matinee idol that could do no wrong in the eyes of his supporters and the TV talking heads in Ray Mancini. However Hatton's dirty tactics were constant throughout his career as he was allowed to hold and hit with impunity due to his popularity. What I find amazing is that Hatton's supporters scream and bay at the moon at Joe Cortez but never mention Parriss' job in the Tszyu fight when Hatton was allowed to engage in whatever filthy tactic he had in his arsenal.
