Anyone remember Ricky Meyers? A fighter that never really reached beyond prospect but looked like he had potential to be a contender, although perhaps short of championship level. Ricky "The Rock" Meyers is another overlooked fighter who was pretty talented in his own right and had an aggressive brawling style somewhat similar to Mike Tyson where he was first trained by Kevin Rooney, and then later with Eddie Mustafa Muhammad. Some of his notable fights he was involved in were against Livingstone Bramble, Micky Ward, Ray Oliveira, and Zack Padilla. Almost all of his fights are very fun to watch and fought at a grueling pace. Dusting off the memory bins today... Saw him fight Stuff Griffin in AC. He had a couple nice wins in retrospect (I forgot that he beat Mickey Ward) and the Padilla fight seemed to end his momentum entirely. Dude provided customers their money's worth every time out.
Saw him all the time on Tuesday night fights and ESPN. He was being managed by Bill Clayton and trained by Rooney. Saw his fights with Paisan, Bramble, cordona and a number of others.
I couldn't stand him and the whole Tyson thing they tried to spin. I thought Griffith beat him as well as Olivera. Then my man Tony Martin gave him a spanking and he got exposed with Padilla finishing him off a couple of years latter. Had a couple of ok wins but they kept trying to pretend he was this mini Tyson when he was not.
