I thought the only way he could be serious was if he meant current Hatton boiling back down and fighting current Burns.

Prime Hatton batters any version of Burns.

 

I was thinking this recently.
I was never really sold on Hatton and was not a fan but in hindsight he was better than I used to think.
I think Hattons body punches would have stopped Burns by the middle rounds.
If people have watched Burns from early in his career they may recall how troubled he was by Johanneson when hit with body shots

Do you mean the one wicky told the world to make on live tv, then to get a belt to , to then I don't want a fellow pugilist to make a penny for putting his health on the line as I want all the pennies

There is no comparison - the Witter fight was never Hatton's best option due to the split he'd have wanted in relation to the numbers he would add to any PPV.

Khan Brook is actually the best fight for both of them and one of the most wanted fights in world boxing. Brook is also not a throughly dislikable bloke and wouldn't stink the place out for 12 rounds and then claim he was robbed which is almost certainly what Witter would do. Nowadays he moans about not getting the fight but had he got it he would have landed the odd pot shot and claim to have been screwed by the judges.

I'm not a Hatton fan btw.

 

It was a real shame that one never came off. At one point they were the top 2 LWWs in the world and I dont doubt that Witter would have taken it, if offered.
At the time I favoured Witter and felt there were several LWWs that Hatton wasnt interested in facing with Witter being one of them.
I did do a thread talking about this a while ago

But I believe witter would have fought Hatton for nothing by the end of it all
Hatton did not want a fellow Brit from the same division having them bragging rights over him
