I find it strange that Floyd constantly compares himself to Ray Robinson, if you take the time to view a few Ray Robinson fights (they are available in the video archives and on Youtube) you'll notice the two couldn't be more different. Surprisingly enough, what you will also see is that Ricky's fighting style is actually very similar to Robinsons.
Floyd Mayweather is like a more mobile James Toney with a lesser workrate. If one were to compare Ricky Hatton's style to one of the greats, it isn't Ray Robinson. Hatton's style has similarities to Roberto Duran. No, Hatton obviously isn't as great as Duran was, but they both liked to come forward and be aggressive, attack the body, but they could box with some success too (especially Duran). Duran became more methodical as the years passed by. Also, both guys could be involved in some really ugly fights as there were both involved in too many clinches, although I think Hatton intitiates the clinches much more than Duran ever did.
Your assesment of Floyd is pinpoint! and I agree with the Hatton/Duran comparison, I would also say Duran's style was more RR than Floyd
i have a very extensive video collection of Ray Robinson. And you're an idiotic hatton huggin newbie if you think they are similiar. Jab? Nope. Left hook? Never. Footwork? Nope, nope, and more nope. This post sucks as much as the one the other night about Duran and Hatton having a similiar style. It begs me to ask, did you follow boxing before Ricky Hatton????
Duran and Hatton are a million miles apart. Duran liked to come forward but was more accurate and picked his shots a heck of a lot better. Duran had more pronounced upper-body movement. They cut the ring off very similiarly...they both come forward, but other than that they are worlds apart. Ricky's defense will never be as effective as Duran's.
P.S. if you haven't ever seen a Ray Robinson fight which clearly some here have not, please review some videos and look at the similarities before posting someone elses opinion, if you don't see it, you don't see it, that's cool
