Because Rico Verhoeven, former kickboxing heavyweight champion of the world and former MMA athlete and boxer is challenging for boxing's heavyweight world championship against Usyk, how does he fare against these 3 heavyweight fighters who dabbled in kickboxing and MMA? Ray Mercer, former K1 and MMA athlete and WBO heavyweight champion of the world Jarrell Miller, former K1 athlete and rated heavyweight contender James Toney, former UFC fighter and IBF middleweight, super middleweight, cruiserweight and WBA heavyweight champion of the world He faces all 3 of them in the boxing ring, the cage/octagon, and the kickboxing ring. Who wins?
Out of everyone on the meagre list of boxers who tried MMA, Mercer and Toney are the most decorated and known, which says alot about how boxers fare in the octagon
It doesn't really tho, it says a lot about how athletes who've trained one martial art do against athletes who've trained half a dozen. Anytime a pure bjj guy goes into MMA, they learn to strike or get knocked out. Same with pure kickboxers and Thai fighters. It's not that boxing is terrible for MMA, it's having one thing that's terrible for MMA.
