Because he's the one stand-out guy that adds lustre to Bowe's resume. You could take Holy out of some other people's resume's (eg Lewis) and it would still be solid.

What I am saying is: I prefer a resume that's filled with solid and borderline top wins over a resume that's mostly cans and one excellent guy.

Lewis's resume without Holyfield is nothing special either, imo.
Better than Bowe's but not by as massive degree as people say.
The difference is mainly that Lewis fought a lot of the over-hyped, over-rated guys that still get overrated to this day.
People are quick to dismiss the likes of Hide, Gonzalez, Donald on Bowe's resume, while at the same time over-reckoning the likes of Briggs, Morrison, Mercer on Lewis's resume.

I agree and generally i do too. But I wouldn't call the rest of the men Bowe beat tomato cans. While a lot of those guys weren't exactly stellar per say, I think Coetzer, Gonzalez, Hide, Cooper, Donald, Seldon and even the aged Tubbs were all good enough to be fringe and most were in their primes. Some even undefeated and a lot of those wins were pretty convincing. Again it wasn't packed with depth, but Bowes resume has more substance than JUST Holyfield..

Bowe couldn't help that. He was ducked by a lot of guys. Lewis , Morrison to name a few.

Mercer would have looked good on his record but he couldn't fight him cos Ferguson took his mandatory position.

Bowe blew Jesse into oblivion , while Mercer gave Lewis hell.

:D I have to give Dino credit for being probably the only guy that genuinely believes Lewis ducked Bowe  The rest of his post is OK though

I'll take Briggs, Morrison and Lewis over Hide and Gonzalez anyday.... probably over Donald, too. Gonzalez wad all hype as a pro.

There should have been more options on the poll. I bet if there was an option between above average and great that vote would get split.

Briggs and Morrison were no better than Hide and Gonzalez.
Donald is probably better than Morrison and Briggs.

Fair enough. I'm not exactly high on him either. He did after all duck Lewis and fought Dokes and Ferguson in his place which was a pretty sad day for boxing. He also got beaten pillar to post by Golata. I don't credit Bowe for the Golata wins.. I only credit him in that there is just no "loss" there. But with the Holyfield victories along with wins over several respectable fringe types, and no stoppage losses or defeats to second raters, he's probably even or a tad higher than someone like Patterson.

It's true that his career fizzled later and he was beaten by a lot of lesser men. But at the time he fought Bowe he was looking rather menacing in the pros and viewed as a valid contender.. He had a stellar amateur career which features Olympic medals and I believe wins over Lewis, Bowe and Stevenson among others ( though I stand to be corrected On that. ). He was undefeated 23-0 when he met Bowe and a large specimen at 6'7", 240 lbs.. It was a legitimately good win if put into proper context

Above average as compared with the other de facto HW champs in history. Good is too relative of a term to be used here.

    There are enough polling options.

For all the worship Holyfield gets on here, Bowe deserves some major recognition for arguably beating him three times. He knocked Evander out cold in the third fight. Come on! No excuses. If we're going to bow to Holyfield all the time, then you have to honor the man who --as a contemporary- beat him very decisively twice, and perhaps questionably a third time.
