Bowe never knocked holy out cold.. Evander was stopped on his feet and after a grueling battle where Bowe himself was sent to the canvas... The second fight was a legit win for Holy.. No question about it.
It didn't fizzle because it never really existed outside of fabrication. A wornout Snipes was the biggest name on his resume coming into the Bowe fight. He didn't train a lick, he was fat, he was very likely even older than advertised and he proved not to have a chin. He beat nobody of note who was within screaming distance of their prime his whole career, such as it was. The amateur stuff made for nice copy but no one was taking him seriously outside of gullible Vegas bettors.
The left hook that dropped Bowe was the same punch that sent Douglas out the ring on a stretcher . Before the fan man ruined things , I thought Bowe was out boxing Vander more a lot better than he did in the first. No fan man and Bowe would have won all 3.
Lewis' resume without Holyfield is still pretty good and far better than Bowe's minus Holyfield. Vitali was a good win and better than anything on Bowe's resume bar Evander. Vitali crushed Hide, dominated Donald, two of Bowe's better wins. Then you have Lewis' win over Grant which isn't even one of his best wins, yet Grant beat Gonzalez and Golota which once again were 2 of Bowe's better wins outside of Holyfield. Gonzalez was never than good, good amateur but terrible pro, losses to Grant, old Whitherspoon, Purrity soon after the Bowe fights, he was basically a 90's version of Audley Harrison. The Tubbs Bowe beat a year later was KO'ed in 1 by Butler who is one of Lewis worst opponents, yet this Tubbs is supposedly one of Bowe's better wins outside of Evander. It's pretty clear that Lewis' opposition was better by some margin over Bowe's outside of Holyfield, especially when you consider the number of top fighters Lewis fought over an extended period from Ruddock to Vitali.
Gonzalez was garbage who did he ever beat he lost to a journeymen in Purrity the year after he fought Bowe. Hide was dangerous but chinny so I'd say he was on par with Morrison. Donald I think is actually a bit underrated he wasn't that bad a fighter. I think he would of beaten Morrison, not sure about Briggs though, so I agree they are of a similar level. Though I would say Briggs or Morrison were not some of Lewis better wins while Hide and Gonzalez were some of Bowe's better wins.
No, but he could've stood up. He played dead and took his 20 million. And it was not a left hook. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bowe crushed Hide too. A primer undefeated version. He had to chase Hide all over the ring and still dropped him about 10 times. Vitali lost the first round against Hide before Hide seemed to quit in the second. Donald was like a weaker Jimmy Young. His footwork and movement was one of his best assets. His legs were totally gone when he fought Vitali. The Bowe version wouldn't have got beaten 12-0 by any version of Vitali. Vitali was a good win but Lewis went life and death with him. Lewis never looked as spectacular as Bowe did against a prime opponent. He looked far less talented against an older , weaker version of Holyfield. When you compare the heights of their careers , Bowe comes out on top.
Hide rocked Bowe, the hardest he had been hit in his career according to Rid****. That Vitali only required 4 minutes to do what Bowe needed 18 minutes to accomplish is something that speaks for itself. In 50 bouts only one man stopped Donald. Remind me what was Bowe doing when he was 37? Joining the Marines? Kidnapping his wife? Oh, no, that's right. Going life and death with Billy Zumbrun.
