Let's discuss it on classic. First of all, Rid**** Bowe was far better fighter than Barry McGuigan or Arthuro Gatti. Bowe's claim to fame is an undisputed HW championship and 2 wins over ATG Holyfield. Overall Bowe has 2 wins over lineal HW champ (Holy), and 5 wins over former or future ABC beltholders (Thomas, Tubbs, Seldon, Dokes, Hide). Other notable wins - Bert Cooper, Pierre Coetzer, Jessy Ferguson, Larry Donald, JL Gonzalez. I don't count his wins over Golota as Bowe was behind on both fights. His resume is clearly weaker than Holyfield's or Lewis'. But he is NOT Oliver McCall or Hasim Rahman type fighter, Bowe was far better, Bowe and McCall common opponents: Lionel Butler - Bowe TKO2, McCall SD10 Jesse Ferguson - Bowe KO2, McCall W10 (controversial win) Bruce Seldon - Bowe KO1, McCall KO9 (while behind on cards) Bowe and Rahman common opponents: Jesse Ferguson - Bowe KO2, Rahman W12 (against 42 y.o. Ferguson) Evander Holyfield - Bowe W12, L12, WTKO8, Rahman - LTD8(against 40 y.o. Holyfield) Overall Bowe should not be ranked as high as ATG HW's of his era - Tyson, Holyfield and Lewis - based on relatively weak resume and short prime, but he should be ranked higher and is in fact far better than both McCall and Rahman.
I agree, his resume is poor, but not that poor that guys like Rahman or Mcall should be mentioned alongside him.
I don't see why not. He was pretty much regarded as the #1 at featherweight for four years, he had a decent run. One of the hardest pound-for-pound punchers. Had some exciting fights. And was a showman.
no i agree, im not saying Hamed doesn't deserve it of course he does. Its just rare to hear genuine praise for the guy.
At his peak, Rid**** Bowe was a terrific fighter, but he had only a few years at best as a top fighter. As a result, I would be reluctant to select him to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. - Chuck Johnston

HOF hardly matters - it's all just good fun. People shouldn't get uptight about who they do and don't put in, it's meaningless.
I have to respectfully disagree! Most boxing people that I know are honored to get in, as it means a lot to them!
Yeah, meaningless was a terrible choice of word. It looks like great fun, and personally I love the pictures and stuff myself. Boxing people are known to absolutely love it. But every year there are these arguments, and about what? There's no rhyme or reason to it, this one gets in, that one doesn't, it's meaningless to argue would maybe be a better thing to say. Because it goes brutally wrong most years. Maybe it hasn't this year though. Also - i know a couple of guys who have a vote and they're quite up front about knowing nothing at all about boxing history. They've written a book, or have a connection in, BWA or whatever and now they're voting. But they don't know who the people they're voting/not voting for are. These two facts leave me very relaxed about the HOF. I don't expect it to go right, it usually doesn't, and as you quite rightly point out, it looks like a hoot.
