I think Bowe would survive some very scary early moments, and stop Liston late in a classic war.

I have never been entirely sold on Bowe.

Was he a genuine all time great, or just a fighter who happened to have the right style to beat Holyfield?

I'd go with Sonny here. Liston's skills are excellent and he could really hit. Bowe's lack of defense will cost him big time.

He could not deal with Sonny's jab or take many of his power shots.

    Liston TKO.

Big Daddy flattens him. Sonny had a long jab but Bowe had a longer right hand.

He bashed up Gonzales with it from dam near half way across the ring. Holyfield knew he couldn't say out there and done his best to keep it inside the wheel house. But he only got battered in there too.

Liston didn't have the leg work to keep it inside away form Bowes long shots. His head would be found by Bowe and if he set down when he came in he'd lift Sonny boy clean out of his boots.

Holyfield may have won the second fight but he came back with a better strategy , a better jab , a better trainer and more body mass - yet somehow Bowe was able to keep him on the outside easier than the first fight.
If it wasn't for fan man landing on his pregnant wife and putting him into auto pilot , Bowe would have 3 wins over Holyfield.
Bowe under Fuch was near unbeatable. He had everything needed to build a perfect HW

I think he was pretty beatable.

He was an incredible talent, but the components were not put together in a logical way.

You have a superheavyweight who negated his physical advantages by fighting on the inside, and had pretty porous defence at range.

I think that if we start matching him against superior punchers and finishers, the illogicality of his game will start to become apparent, as it did in the Golotta fights.

He fought Golota after touring the world eating like an animal as he went , enlisting in the army and giving up on training altogether . He also didn't have Futch.

Golota was on fire those two fights. Doing things SHWs have never done before. And he still lost.

    To ask the obvious question:

Do the Golota fights perhaps point to a stylistic weakness that was always there?

You can't judge a fighter in his prime off a past prime performance.

He also nearly dropped a decision vs Tubbs.

I think it's fair to say that Holyfield was tailor-made for him.

I agree, but his prime fights perhaps leave some unanswered questions.

Neither of you are to bright. Bowe enlisted in the Marines and lasted less than 2 weeks there. He never"listed" in the army. Should have looked up that little fact. Its almost on par with your claim Vits was an Olympic champion even though he never competed in the Olympics.
