atsch He was a ****ing ****** who was retired by the first decent big man he fought . End of the story and this bull**** .
Bowe was a great fighter & my favourite HW of the 90s, one of the most entertaining careers ever imo. Its difficult to discuss his career on ESB because of all the ******ed criticisms which pop up in every single thread, usually from the Klithuggers.
Probably because he is a stylistic nightmare for either bro, a big, powerful & aggressive guy with a great jab & a refined inside game. The amount of nonsense Ive read on here about Bowe is why I rarely post about him, I get tired of repeating myself :-(
:yep Sure seems like a hell of an aggressive campaign against a guy who wasn't ****... alledgedly. Any time his name comes up, it's "Bowe? Bowe?! **** Bowe! One year prime! Overrated!" Anybody who can't see Bowe's obvious talent and skills is beyond help. Only concern I have with him is that he wasn't terribly difficult to hit, to say the least. Strong beard, though.
Re-watching Bowe-Holyfield II, Awesome! Bowe was very special for a big man and his fights with holyfield proved that. His inside game was sublime.
His defence was his biggest flaw in the ring (especially from the outside) he was always willing to take one to land one. He fought like a superhero, its a shame he rarely trained like one. Other than Holy 1 & Gonzalez I'm not sure he ever had a serious training camp for a title fight. Ive read that when he had his house built, he had a fridge in his bedroom! What a guy.
Lewis vs Bowe wouldve been immense, and not far off 50/50, id shade it to Lewis. Ill never understand why he didnt take the fight, he was brave as **** in the ring, seems out of character. Punched like a mule, great inside and out, strong chin and aggressive as ****. Id favour him in his short prime over Wlad. Dont see him not landing heavy on Wlad at some point.
Rock Newman (Bowe's manager) had a long running beef with the WBC who refused to give Bowe a good rating when he was on the way up. Bowe's team offered Lewis similar terms to what they had accepted to fight Holy & when Lewis refused the belt went into the bin. Bowe-Lewis was signed & ready to happen in 1996 but Lewis got KOd by McCall & the fight never happened.
Tyson-Holyfield in 1991 and Bowe-Lewis in 1993, two of the greatest fights in heavyweight history to not take place.
Bowe was dominant at infighting. Trained by the bets of them all Eddie Futch, Bowe the learned all the intricacy`s of working inside. Watch him against Holyfield, he tore up Holy inside. If he hadn`t lost his focus, he would have been an all time great. Think about the tools, he had, great jab, solid combinations, solid chin, fighting heart, all round solid boxing skills. If he was in his prime, with Eddie Futch at his side, he`s a nightmare for both Klit`s. They would have trouble keeping him ouside. And if they wanted to wrestle, hold and try to tie him up. Bowe was not shy about rough house tactics. And once he got inside, he would destroy them at close range...
Absolutely agree. People can ***** all they want about his prime being short, fue to lack of discipline. But if you can`t look at his style, what he could do in a ring, your blind !!
