No wonder he lost the second Golota fight, who on earth advisers these boxers. Time and time again, you see weight drained or hear about weight drained boxers entering the ring on fight night. That is why i still call this sport old fashioned, the people involved are somewhat educated and old fashioned. Some but not all......also that second fight was a underrated war and immense.

50lbs in 8 weeks, WTF? Bowe should have been awarded "slimmer of the year" award for losing so much weight in a short period!

No way Eddie Futch would have allowed this sort of thing to happen. Big mistake Bowe made by not staying with Eddie. Futch brought out the best in Bowe, plain & simple!

Bowe had so much talent but ate himself out of greatness. If only he had more discipline....

Sadly you couldn't be more wrong.

Bowe had often blown up between fights and then had to drop weight quick to get into shape. The Holyfield fight in '93, where he came in at 246? He started training camp at 280, despite having been 244 when fighting Jesse Ferguson in May '93.

It was a common, and very stupid thing for Bowe to do. It's something that Ricky Hatton gets a lot of stick for these days, because it shortens your ring career with your weight yo-yoing so much.

This was something that even Futch wasn't able to prevent. In the end, it was Futch that chose to leave Bowe, Bowe didn't let him go...out of sheer disgust at Bowe's lack of discipline over the years and letting himself down in the first Golota fight.

Bowe loved his fast food. In the end, that kind of lifestyle caught up with him.
It would been much better for his mental health if he'd fought Lewis in '96 rather than Main Events butting in and choosing Golota instead.

Where the hell did you get the 50lbs from? He weighed in at 252 for the first Golota fight, and 235 for the second.

Bowe admitted it himself on HBO's Legendary Nights series. We're not talking about in-ring weights, it how much he'd weigh at the beginning of training camp compared to what he weighed on fight night. Dude would balloon up in weight something fierce between fights, and training camps would be more about getting him in shape than they were about a focused strategy to beat his opponent.

Futch left Bowe after the first Golota fight, so he never trained him for the rematch.

I believe Futch left Bowe, not the other way around.

That fight ruined Bowe. Losing 50 pounds in 8 weeks was too fast and he did it the wrong way. Bowe came out of that fight slurring where that didn't exist prior to the fight. When you drop weight like that, the fluid in the brain that cushions the blows in depleted. Therefore his brain was rocked around without any protection. Bad management on Rock Newman's part.

He "admitted" to an excuse for looking bad?

What a surprise! Must be true then.

yeah, it happens. James Toney weighed 214 pounds several weeks prior to fighting Roy Jones at 168. Think about that for second!

These things shouldn't be used as excuses though imo because it's the fighters own damn falt for ballooning up so big.

Yes...the point I was trying to make was that this was something that Bowe had done several times before, much to Futch's annoyance but he had done it.

The 252-235 not being 50 pound thing...it means instead that he turned up in training camp around 285 I guess. Which makes my point exactly, even after that first fight with Golota he again just chowed down and ballooned up massively rather than dedicate himself.

It's no wonder he was done and dusted by 29. You look at someone at Bernard Hopkins and that's the important of maintaining your fitness and not pigging out between fights. It'll wreck ya.
