I do not believe Bowe's excuses.

Yes, it was usual for Bowe to be overweight/out of shape when he thought he can get away with that (like he probably thought about Golota) but this time the situation was really different.

It was known almost immediately there would be a rematch, and there was only 5 months between those fights. So, assuming what he said was true, it meant that instead training he went from 250 to 285 during the first 3 months, knowing he will face the same fighter he couldn't touch when he was 250. Do you think even Bowe could be that stupid?

Also, I do not think it makes sense to compare him with Toney. A lot of Toney's weight loss was water - and he needed to lose as much as possible to get below the limit. After the weight-in he probably recovered something like 10 pounds by the night before the fight.

He was 252 in the first and 235 in the second.

Where do you get 280+ from?

    • He was not 252, no where ****ing near. He didnt look 252, in one of Riddick Bowe recent fights he was 270+ and back against Golota he looked even fatter than that. In the video it states he lost 50 pounds in 8 weeks, so he was not..i repeat he was not 252 ****ing pounds.

THe losing 50 pounds thing refers to the weight he was when he started training camp somewhere around October or so, not the weight he was in the July fight against Golota. We're guessing that he entered that training camp around 285.

I've got copies of Bowe-Golota I (1996), Bowe-Rhode (2004) and Bowe-Zumbrun (2005)...and seriously, he does not look fatter in the 1996 fight. He looked terrible in the two recent fights, and there was a suspicion that he was heavier than 280 even against Zumbrun since he refused to take the official weigh-in - he just declared a weight instead. Some felt he was more like 290 or more.

It's not an excuse for losing, it's an example of how his slovenly nature helped accelerate his rapid decline. He admitted to having no discipline and letting **** get out of hand, not making excuses for losing.
