Of course there was a tournament. It was an attempt for HBO to try and duplicate what they did in the 80s with the Tyson-Spinks tourney.

    Lewis signed to fight Ruddock
    Bowe signed to fight Holyfield.

They all signed contracts to fight the winners.

Newman thought for sure Ruddock was going to ko Lewis, and that Bowe could outbox Ruddock.

When Lewis won, that was it. Lewis had dominated Bowe in the amatuers, bowe didn't have the size advantage he preferred in fights. So they ducked him plain and simple.

    - Rock Newman fell out with the WBC the previous year when they didnt give Bowe the ranking he deserved

    - Bowe offered Lewis similar terms to those he'd accepted to face Holyfield, which Lewis declined

    - Anyone who thinks Bowe was scared of Lewis is talking ****

It's hard to hate Riddick Bowe.

This was one of Riddick's quotes

'Everyone had weaknesses, some like drugs others like hookers,
    my weakness is FOOD'

'IF THERE IS A PIECE OF CAKE, IM GONNA EAT IT'

I wish he was in today's era, he could have gotten pretty fat and still knocked out everyone outside of Wladimir. Just train and get in shape for that one super showdown against Wlad and go back to eating.

No he didn't Bowe easily wins the first round then Lewis lands a big right hand in the second moving Bowe's head back and it's stopped. It's completely irrelivent to what would have happened in the Pro's.

It was 50/50, Bowe had more talent but Lewis was smarter.

:patsch:-( Lewis had already signed the contract to fight Bowe prior to fighting Ruddock numb nuts. Bowe may not have been scared of Lewis but Newman was

    You just made **** up.

He already signed a contract to fight the winner of Ruddock-Lewis.

This is one of the most blatant ducks in b0xing history.

Nope. The gentleman you're replying to is right on the MONEY actually.

The fight fell apart due to a PURSE SPLIT dispute and nothing else. Nobody had signed anything because both sides couldn't agree to terms on the purse split. And it was Lewis side that walked away from the negotiating table.

Bowe offered Lewis a 20% split on a 32 Million dollar purse. Which at the time, would've been far and away Lewis' career high purse. And was along the lines of what Holyfield offered Bowe for their 1st fight.

Lewis turned down a career high payday and a shot at the undisputed Heavyweight crown, to fight a lesser opponent for less money... FACT.

Lewis also turned down an even larger amount offered by Bowe's team later in the year (after Lewis beat Tucker and before Bowe-Holyfield II) which was once again, more money than Lewis had ever seen in his career up until that point.

It's not Bowe's fault Lewis priced himself out (or got KO'd by Tyson's old sparring partner, which yet again ruined the fight.)

Lewis is almost entirely to blame for that fight not occuring.

That was post facto. Newman trying to change the deal, because he knew that it wouldn't happen.

The 4 guys were locked up for a two fight deal. Bowe won, Lewis won, they were in a contract to fight.

Newman wanted "more"money since they got the belts. It was a smokescreen to avoid the fight. The WBC called bull****, they dumped the belt.

Again one of the most blatant ducks in boxing world.

It was the one chance both of these guys had to face a fellow great in his prime. Damn shame they blew it, could have been a huge boost to both their legacies. Once upon a time I thought Lewis would win for sure, but after watching more of Bowe I've come to see it as more of a 50-50 fight. Lewis had the toughness and smarts, but Bowe was more skilled imo.

Bowe got a standing 8 count like 10 seconds into the round.

Then he got blitzed again. He didn't stand straight after the 8 count, and in the amateurs that is an automatic stoppage.
