I do love when internet jockeys dispute the thoughts of the best trainer in the world who has been at his craft for 40 years.

Bowe could have been exactly what he was, a flash in the pan. He was fragile, lazy and too often chose to fight the wrong fight. History proves me out.

    Yep.

Then, add in the post Ali athlete big $$$ problem. Anyone that has managed departments or personal has had this issue on a much smaller scale. Just try getting the guy with lots of $$$$ to work as hard as they used to. In boxing, it would be so hard to get a guy up at 5am for jogging. Especially after a couple of softie title defenses where he got early ko's. Just try getting that guy to work as hard and what happens is he refuses or fires the trainer or stops listening. But he does not jog. What happens when that "or else" part of training disappears?

Almost everyone simply has to be pushed to be at their best. And Riddick was the beneficiary of a match we see so often that results in a changing of the guard and titles; youth and reflexes vs. the old guy.

Bowe not being great was largely his own fault. He didn't fully utilise the tools he had (even though I feel these are sometimes over-rated anyway). He didn't seem to have the dedication, intelligence or longevity, all very important components that make a champion/ATG.

I think Eddie Futch genuinely believed Bowe had the most potential and ability of any fighter he had trained. That's what he said. And I wouldn't dispute it.

You must have a peculiar definition of "fragile".
