Riddick Bowe (Holyfield I fight) vs Buster Douglas (Tyson fight)

Bowe mid-rounds/late TKO or UD.
It would have been a very interesting fight, but Bowe strength and workrate would have prevailed over Douglas.

 

I like the superior footwork guy in this matchup. Decision bout all the way. Would be interesting to see what dirty tactics Bowe would use to get Buster off his game---low blows? Hitting on the break? Hitting after the bell? rabbit punches? Cheap shot at the press conference? Or what?

I actually think those tactics could and would be effective against Douglas. But most of the bout would see Bowe being 2 steps behind and Douglas landing a ton while turning him. And those wide looping right hands Bowe threw are not landing in this bout against this opponent.

 

Helluva match, pity these two never met.

I think the Douglas of the Tyson’s upset was absolutely NASTY heavyweight but prime Bowe woulda been too much. Bowe didn’t wilt when someone took the fight to him and stood up to his best like Tyson seemed to… he fought right back. I do think Douglas stays in there though because of the drive he had in Tokyo. I think he gets up from a couple of knockdowns and actually hurts Bowe himself a few times but most likely that’s it.

Bowe UD in a pretty competitive fight.

 

If it is a clean fair fight, the I give Douglas 40% to Bowe 60%.

 

Bowe had a porous defense, particularly from the outside. Douglas would have his share of success in landing his jab and right hand, but I think Bowe gets to him and stops him in the latter rounds.
