Riddick Bowe says Lennox Lewis is the one who ducked him

There were/are two Lefthooks. One was Lefthook89, the other was Lefthook31.
If I remember rightly.
Can't remember which one changed his name to Sangria.

Lewis destroyed Bowe in just about every aspect of life.

 

Well, I think he was mostly okay, then he turned more extreme and started having tantrums when people wouldn't accept Tyson as something like head-to-head greatest of all-time .... There used to be a guy here called Magnassaki or something like that, who claimed to be an ex-heavyweight once trained by Futch who sparred with Holyfield, Klitschkos, fought Bowe and Lewis etc. ... and lefthook31 got very annoyed with him because he didn't rate Tyson as high as he'd like and said from personal experience that Tyson wasn't a nice guy ...... then lefthook31 had a tantrum or two and got lost .... soon after that, Sangria became prominent here .... so I always assumed they were the same.

But looking back, lefthook31 posted this, ranking them :

So he did rate Holyfield at least over Tyson, which is obviously the correct thing to do.
Maybe he wasn't Sangria then.

 

He's likely just entering puberty so maybe he hadn't seen much of Tyson back then, of course nowadays he can watch Tyson all day long on YouTube.

And then Lewis spent the whole of his career from that point on pretending to be up somewhat on the outside of the boxing establishment.

The whole narrative became "I'm being ducked and frozen out by Don King and American boxing".
In fact, the WBC twice set him up with their paper belts, matching him with has-been or mediocre Don King fighters, and he took a good chunk of step aside money in 1996 from King too.

I have no issue with Lennox Lewis for peddling that crap, but the fans who fall for it hook, line and sinker need to do some actual research.

In Byrd's case he might have been wary of fighting a tricky southpaw.

In Ruiz's case he probably just had bigger fish to fry.

He has a point. They gave him 30 days to negotiate for a very high profile bout that could have easily grossed over 20 million. As an undisputed champ he had to deal with bs politics from all 4 organizations, kind of like what joshua is going through right now with pulev and ortiz.

Lennox is almost never blamed for losing to oliver mccall, that can kill the hype. Imagine if canelo was ktfo by chavez jr, ggg would be out of a payday. People rarely call lewis out for ducking byrd and ruiz either.

 

Bowe and his revisionist history. If your repeat the lie often enough many will sadly believe. Those of us who were around then know better.
