forgive me for missing your sarcasm re tyson's 80s opponents. i agree that tyson whom showed up vs mcbride looked worse than he did early vs williams and ettiene, but again although many simply think of mcbride as a bum, mcbride was tough matchup given his size for the obviously undertraining tyson. mcbride showed plenty of chin and tuffness vs tyson in that fight obviously more so than mcbride showed againt mollo and even golota but mcbride was ready vs tyson and was able to eat some good shots from tyson. mcbride had a gameplan to use his size and club the much smaller tyson and it worked enough to make tyson struggle. if tyson wasn't a coke head, he could've realized this, finished the fight (winning) and fight some other name smaller guys and make some money. imo, tyson was still very dangerous around that 05 time and if properly trained (and drug free including prescription drugs), he could even at age 39 beat most hws save the klitchko's and perhaps just a few others.

You're basing an opinion that tyson was vastly deteriorated in the matter of 2 or so years on one fight vs mcbride whom was for mike at that point a stupid matchup. his previous fights in 01-04 didn't last long enough to tell (except for the (EDIT) Danish pastry tyson uD'd in 01 and Lewis). I think Tyson looked worse/as bad against Lewis as he did vs McBride. Of course w/ tyson using coke and prescription meds a rapid decline is not out of the question, I just don't think the point is all that well substantiated using the mcBride fight b/c of the above.

The bottom line is that a 2005 Tyson has nothing to do with a discussion about the past-******ed Bowe. Even 50 year old Tyson if he's still alive will probably be more dangerous than Bowe now.

I'm not sarcastic: people really would try to and discredit his opposition. Every great boxer gets accused of fighting bums.

McBride certainly had many tools to make Tyson struggle (the same combination of size and height had bothered Tyson against Nielsen in 2001) but he also had very bad durability. Had Tyson had more in the tank, he would have stopped McBride early. I don't even think it was a question of Tyson being undertrained: he trained reasonably well, but that was nowhere near enough to make him into a world class fighter by that stage. Tyson was shot by 2005.

I think he'd be dangerous, but only in the way Corrie Sanders is still dangerous. He'd certainly have been able to KO the likes of Fraudley Harrison, that's for sure.

That's sad. I wish he could find broad casting or anything else.

I disagree that Tyson v McBride was adequately prepared, he was in good shape and had trained, but it was after an injury and a layoff and i've heard that a lot of tyson's training in the early 2000's was a little suspect or not the best. Btw, Golota (whom is not shot but is obviously past his prime), had to break down McBride and otherwise struggle a little bit before stopping McBride in mid rounds. Mollo I think just caught the underprepared McBride whom had languised for over a year after his big "win" vs Tyson. McBride as you admit had the necessary tools and imo would be a game (losing) opponent for a lot of the top hws at least that night.

I think Golota is shot at this stage in his career. He hasn't had much snap in his punches for years now. McBride was also knocked out by a journeyman, and was the only boxer in that journeyman's last 10 or so fights to actually lose to him. That's why no-one (not least Tyson) took McBride seriously going into that fight.

Hey, I'm just enjoying discussing Tyson with a Tyson-fan who actually has his head screwed on properly.

He'll make a little money. Maybe the guy just misses boxing? It reminds me of Tua; people keep wanting him to step up to championship leve, and debating whether he's worthy of it, but I can't help suspecting that he's not interested in that. Maybe he knows he's not good enough for that anymore, and just wants to fight at the level he's at now cos he loves the sport and he gets better paid for it than anything else he knows how to do. Bowe might be the same, even although telling journalists he's going to be champ again might just increase those paydays.

I know the division is crap right now but I think Bowe is too washed up to compete in it.

Okay, that's a pretty amusing typo

I assume rumours of a MMA debut for Bowe were as substantial as his chances of becoming undisputed champion again.
