I think Bowe wins a good decison against McCall. A Bowe defense against a then-hot Oliver McCall was mooted after he blew out Jesse Ferguson, but never came about. Both men were in such good form at the time, i think its impossible to predict what might happen. Like Bowe/Lewis, its hard to visualise how it would of played out. Bowe had a solid chin and wouldn't be vulnerable to getting bombed out like Lewis or Seldon. And McCall never 'outboxed' anybody . . I favor Bowe outboxing and outworking McCall in a 7-3/8-4 workmanlike decision. Now as for Bowe vs Rahman Bowe by KO his inside game would make it a hard night for the rock. No further analysis but feel free to contribute. lol
Agree 100%. Bowe outpoints McCall comfortably and KO's Rahman. Common opponents Bowe KO2 Lionel Butler McCall WSD Lionel Butler Bowe KO1 Seldon McCall KO9 Seldon (Seldon ahead after 8 ) Bowe KO2 Ferguson McCall W10 Ferguson (96-94 on all cards, some say it should've been a draw). More that enough to say Bowe was the better fighter. Bowe vs Rahman - Bowe destroyed Ferguson in less than 2 rounds, Rahman won by decision in 12 rds against 42 y.o. Freguson Bowe won't KO McCall only because of his granite chin. But Rahman is ready to be destroyed by Bowe. If Maskaev KO'd him twice (and Bowe would KTFO Maskaev in 1), then you can imagine what woud have happened. Bowe W12 McCall Bowe KO5 Rahman
McCall would have KOd Bowe like he did Lewis & Akinwande. Bowe is considered more durable than Lewis & Akinwande because they fought McCall and each other, whereas Bowe did not. Bowe would have probably stopped Maskaev, but not in 1 rd. Rahman had a better defense than Bowe and unlike Bowe was also younger than Maskaev and still got stopped twice by him.
And Jameel McCline and Orlin Norris also outbox Bowe (McCline drops Bowe during the fight) I believe?
I watched Bowe as a 6'5 light heavyweight in the amateurs and was impressed but as he moved up the weight kept coming and he got bigger and slower and got hit too much. He did have a solid chin but then again Evander and Golota had him on the floor. The thing with Bowe is I dont think we saw the best he could have been and then again maybe we did. Bowe had the talent to beat McCall and Rahman but hard to say how much better he was than these guys is hard to say. His toughest foe was Holyfeild and he took 2 of those fights but at a time when EH was suffering from heart trouble and fatigue (maybe from having a Big guy lean on you) Golota may have been one of the better fighters Bowe fought and even though the nut case Golota found a way to lose both fights he was beating the daylights out of Bowe so while Bowe may have been the better specimen and talent than McCall and Rahman he could have picked up a loss
Bowe would have been too big for Norris and also younger than him (TT was 7 years older than Norris) , but McCline would have inevitably knocked Bowe down.
No, we are talking about prime in shape Bowe that beat Holyfield and that Bowe almost inevitably beats McCall (points) and Rahman (KO):good Focused Lewis KO'd Rahman easily. Unfocused lost by knockout. That' s the difference. Why choose worse version it fantasy fights?
Bowe's window was very small and he simply did not fight enough of the divisions punchers to earn a top placement, him being decked by Holyfield and Golota tells me he's vunerable. It would have been very interesting to see how he would have fared against the likes of Rudduck, Tucker, Bruno, Morrison, Mercer, Briggs, Tua, Tyson and Klitschko..guys who could really bang and make the fight competitive; I would however favour him over McCall and Rahman but only a fit and in shape Bowe, anything less and he could easily trip up...
bowe would easily outbox mccall, he may even stop him cause he was such a good combo puncher and obviously a much better fighter than mccall. bowe would ko rahman easily, it would probably once again be a great knockout highlight with rahman leaving the ring on a stretcher
