    Peak Buster vs. Peak Bowe.

    Two skilled superheavies.

    The winner?

I was thinking of this fight today.

I'm going with Douglas here. Bowe, while being a great fighter struggled against fighters that had good jabs and moved. Watch him fight Tubbs. Tubbs was past his best but still gave Bowe a great fight and the fight could of been a draw. Golota is also a big tall fighter with a good jab and we all saw him bust up Bowe, bad.

The Douglas of the Tyson fight was a league above these two guys. He would be able to beat Bowe using his jab, and ring generalship and win by late stoppage. Tyson was more durable than Bowe but Douglas had the power to stop him, and Tyson had much more power than Bowe and Douglas was able to take his best uppercut.

Hard to go against any skilled big versus Bowe, but I think Bowe wins this. Buster was a good fighter, when in shape, but Bowe was a very good fighter when in shape.

And Bowe's best win is more impressive and against a better fighter than Buster's best win.

Russell you are the king of matchmakers!

I honestly dont know if anyone was capable of dealing with peak Douglas, otherwise an average fighter. If we're talking the Douglas of the Tyson fight vs. Bowe from the first fight with Evander, then Bowe won't make it taking those right hands. he has met his match because as we know, Douglas had everything going for him. Douglas by decision or tko.

I would tentatively pick Douglas based on his superior defence, jab and skills on the outside otherwise. He'd be able to match Bowe punch for punch on the inside as well.

We only saw Bowe against one skilled man as big as Douglas, and Golota damn near killed him... twice. Yes he was past his best, but he did come fresh off stopping Holyfield..... who, by the way, landed his jab almost at will and easily banked rounds when he didn't slug it out with Bowe. Bowe has one of the shittiest defences of all linear heavyweight champions and while his size, strength and workrate may compensate for it against some smaller/lesser opponents, i think it would cost him dearly aganist Douglas.

    I'd go with Douglas UD.

On the basis of the Golota fights, I would have to pick Douglas here by UD, something like 8-4 maybe.

Riddick Bowe would blast out Buster in less than 5 rounds.

Douglas beat Tyson on Mike worst night during his prime, and still almost got ko'd don't get me wrong he looked very good but I see Bowe breaking him down and stopping him in the mid rounds.

Yes at their absolute best Douglas might well win this. I agree. Of course Douglas was barely ever at his best and Bowe's overall record shows some consistency.

In a series tho starting with Douglas at his peak we might see about 8-2 Bowe if not 9-1

I think Buster I have just had a look through boxing records and one of the things that stand out is Bowe never fought a genuine bigman, apart from Golota, Pinklon Thomas is the largest man Bowe had fought at 6'3" with a 77" reach. Buster at 6'4" and an 84" reach with his speed and ring craft will be a handful for Bowe, Buster by UD.

It would really need to be the peak version of Douglas. No other version would do.

But if he showed up, yeah, I think he could give Bowe fits and beat him.

Don't forget a faded Tony Tubbs. He was 6'3 and gave Bowe absolute fits in a close fight that almost ended in a draw

The Buster of the Tyson fight was a one-time/one-time only phenomena, and would have beaten any version of Riddick Bowe anyone might care to offer up. He would have befuddled Bowe with superior skills, footwork, hand speed, jab, generalship, confidence.... my gosh, I'm not exaggerating, just look at the tape of the Tyson fight. THAT version of Douglas was unbelievable. He had all the physical tools, but it was his mind, his mental attitude... Buster found that magic key that unlocked the perfect mantal attiude to go with his skills that night. He would guite possibly stop Bowe in any round from 9 to 11.
