No being who ever breathed, did better at heavyweight then Joe Louis, with the arguable exception of Muhammad Ali!
It is like this. James Douglas has a much better single win than Larry Holmes. Does that put them in the same category?
Though both Bowe and Holy would have excellent fights against Holmes...I just don't see either of them getting that close that often, and they both seemed to like coming inside. The ugly jab, not-devastating-but-no-joke-either right hand, and holding would have discouraged Bowe. The right and uppercut would have worn Holy down. Again, they would have been awesome fights but Holmes by decision over both in their prime...and I don't see either of them getting shut out by ANY stretch of the imagination, either. It would have been HIGHLY competitive...Bowe might have scored a kd, but of course in his prime Larry would have made him pay for that...viciously.
I was waiting for this Lol- Was the version of Tyson Douglas beat in his prime? Was Douglas ever good before or after the bout?
Mike was still in his prime imo...but he was letting outside garbage influence the hell out of him. And Douglas fought the fight of his life, as his mother's death supernaturally motivated him.
That excuse can be applied to any situation. Louis doesn't need excuses. Holyfield needs a few. Bowe needs many!
No argument Ali beat better people by a country mile- Evander also beat Moorer, Bowe, Tyson, Mercer, (on fair cards IMO) Valuev, Ruiz, Cooper, fat Douglas, the best of Old Foreman, Old Holmes, Qawi x2 Dokes, Stewart, Tillis, Thomas, Rahman and drew with Lennox Lewis- (not imo) I would say that is a step above Louis in regards to resume.
I know this is unpopular, but I actually had Bowe winning the 2nd Holy fight by a point. I was surprised they didn't give him the champion's benefit of a doubt.
