Outside of the hit-or-miss heavyweight Holyfield, who did Bowe ever defeat convincingly? Bruce Seldon? ****, look back at the Pierre Coetzer fight and you can clearly see that he was struggling with him until he landed a succession of low blows. Bowe just wasn't that good and was entirely unproven.

Lewis does to Bowe what he did to the far more dangerous Ruddock.

Actually i have him just a little higher than Bowe, only because his prime was longer and he his resume a little better, although in a HTH matchup id pick Bowe. Lewis's biggest wins were over a fading Holyfield and a past it Tyson. Thought he was lucky to get the decision over Mercer and was ktfod twice by not so spectacular fighters.
Dont get me wrong he was a borderline top 10 heavyweight which i guess would mean you could consider him great. But overated and far from a top 5 Heavyweight. Anyone who has him no.5 or higher is either a Lewis Jockniffer or dont really dont know much about the past heavyweight greats.

I would have to believe that Lewis would have the advantage having had kayoed Bowe previously in the amateurs.... It is a damn shame the fight did not happen when both were at their peaks in the early 90's... I feel that Lewis was more precise and fundamentally sound.... And that booming right hand of his.... Not too many survived that punch and Bowe would not be the exception.

    Lewis KO 7 Bowe

prime for prime this woulda been a great fight. much better than anything we have today. i agree with the posters saying that lennox's precise right hand would have carried the day here but it would have been a war while it lasted.

Since Bowe's 'prime' was so short, doesn't that suggest he just had a couple of good nights? If a fighter is judged purely on one fight then Buster Douglas should be up there with the greats, no?

The fight is competitive early on. Lewis adapts though and starts hitting him harder than he was hit in his whole career, and begins to bust him up

It seems you dont know much about the 90s scene, look at Lewis's record under the microscope

    Mason - top6, 35-0 contender
Rudduck-top3 HW, some considered him no1
    Bruno - top5 HW
    McCall - avenges defeat
Mercer - top6 contender fresh of going to an MD with Holyfield
Golota - considered no1 by some after beating Bowe into retirement
    Akiwande - WBO champ
    Briggs - linear champ
Holyfield x2 - ATG fresh off beating Moorer/Tyson
Tua - top3 contender and arguably unbeaten
Grant - considered the air aparent
Rahman - avenges defeat past his prime
Tyson - ATG past prime, but so was Lewis
Vitali - Prime ATG,while past his own prime

Beat every man he faced, beat contenders year on year, ducked no one, destroyed top contenders, fought at the top for 11years

    Whats your top10 look like?

The bottom line is that Lennox beat him s an amateur and chased a fight with im as a pro and Team Bowe clearly ducked him. WE do not know for sure but that is because of Riddick. Lewis was the only fighter his camp clearly ducked.

Lewis is by far the most overated fighter on this board.

Bowe's refusal to commit to any sort of defense would have me very worried against a fighter with a sharp powerful right hand like Lewis. Bowe is no Ruddock or Golota, he is really tough and will take some to dish some but ultimately, I see him being stopped in the mid-late rounds in an entertaining fight. Bowe was a plodder but I can see his jab bothering Lewis, he might sneak in a good stunning punch or two on the inside as well. But Bowe just walks through too much punishment for my liking and while Lewis could be inconsistent, he took care of himself better and that should be the difference.

I think Bowe would be well up for this, and would have trained harder than for any other fight. I still think Lewis would have just had a bit too much for him and would edge Bowe out in a classic. Lewis TKO 12

Lewis has a good record against top fighters although no defining fight against a prime great, however that is not his fault so he cant be blamed for it. He wanted the Bowe fight. Not overrated, a terrific heavyweight with a slightly questionable chin. His skill managed to get him through most of the time though.
