Holyfield had Bowe in trouble on more than 1 occasion during their fights.. I'd have to go with Marciano by Unanimous Decision, although since Bowe's defense is not very good, I could see him earning a stoppage against Bowe. You cannot lack a great defense and slug it out with Marciano. edit for grammatical mistake.
If Riddick is disciplined and stayed religiously on the outside, a points victory is not unlikely. However, the moment he steps in to engage Rocky as he was wont to do, it gets really, really complicated.
Fitness would be the key and stamina, what Golota did not finish Marciano would and it could be faster than the 8-9th rd, Bowes latest Ko was in the 9th rd and the punches that he took in fights with Holyfield would be deadly vs Marciano, forget the size and the blubber....Good Big man loses to Great (freak)little guy with the Big mans power + and takes the 10 count
Bowe is ridicoulsy over rated here. Someone like Lennox Lewis would have a much better shot vs Marciano. Bowe is too easily hit in my opinion and he wan't stechnically as good a hitter as Lewis was. Although many people would say size is an advantage here, if anything Bowe will find it hard to hurt Marciano badly due to his awkward crouching style. I'd pick Marciano here, by late stoppage, but he'd have to work very hard for it
I think this would be a war and Marciano would win it. Bowes habit of doing a lot of his work on the inside would neutralize his physical advantages and turn it into a phone boot afair. While Marciano is not noted for his defence he is a lot harder to hit in the trenches than Bowe and his short reach (usualy a disadvantage) would alow him to beat Bowe to the punch in close and load his punches up quicker. Basicaly if you want to put Marciano in against a superheavyweight to prove that he can beat them this is the one to choose.
I quite agree. Marciano dominated an era and beat all the best challengers available while Hollyfield was just part of the shufeling of the pack. Could you see Marciano loosing his title to Michael Moorer for example?
It's not hard to see why he is overrated. He showed his true potential in one fight, and beat an ATG fairly easily. Everything else - the other two Holyfield fights, the Golota shambles, wins over Gonzalez, Donald, Hide, Dokes and so on, were not the best Riddick Bowe. I think Bowe beats the vast majority of ATG's, if he was at his best. Dempsey, Marciano, Liston, Tyson and possibly Frazier, Louis and many other greats could have lost to the Bowe who only once performed at the level he was capable of. It's telling that Futch said Bowe had the most potential he had ever seen. if he had done more inhis career, which he could have done, I think the majority of people would disagree with your statement that he is overrated.
if he can see Barrera knocking out Saddler in 2 rounds, then he can probably see John Ruiz beating Marciano in 30 seconds
he had alot of talent and was excellent but comeon, he was not as good as Lewis, and just did not have good defense, pretty easy to hit
How so? Marciano is obviously higher on most peoples all time list, but head-to-head Bowe beats him way more often than not (at least the best version does). Marciano would need to come foward as he'd stand virtually no chance of outboxing Riddick from the outside, in doing so he'd be eating hurtful uppercuts, jabs, hooks and combinations all night long. The ref steps in to save a bloodied and bruised Rocky from further punishment somewhere near the 11th round, Marcianos heart and chin would take him this far. :good
