Riddick 'Big Daddy' Bowe, was a great fighter in the 90s with a lot of potential. He came to prominence with a big win over Evander Holyfield & would win the trilogy (2-1). However, Bowe's career was somewhat lackluster outside of his wins over Holyfield, & he didn't accomplish what his talent was capable of. Bowe didn't face many top fighters & even less power punchers. How does Bowe fare against: Dempsey Baer Louis Marciano Liston Frazier Foreman Lyle Shavers Cooney Tyson Bruno Smith Ruddock Lewis Mercer Morrison McCall Tua Rahman Ike Briggs Wlad Vitali Sanders Brewster Peter Povetkin AJ Wilder
He loses to Louis, Liston, Frazier, Foreman, Tyson and Lewis. He gets stopped by all names there but Frazier IMO and beats the rest. Ibeabuci, Brewster and Lyle would make for great, great fights.
Hard to see anyone stopping Bowe to be honest, dude has a cast iron chin and plenty of heart. He took combinations below the belt from Golota that would've made any grown man weep until Golota gave up because he couldn't stop him. Just unreal.
At the Bowling Square...lol! Sangria, it's apparent we respectfully disagree on this topic, but you made my morning with that joke. Sincere thanks, I needed that.
Bowe had the ability to beat damn near everyone on that list if in shape and focused. The fighters I don't believe he'd beat are. Liston Foreman Frazier Tyson Probably loses to Louis, but his chances of winning against him would be greater than the above 4 because Louis didn't take a great shot, and wasn't great defensively. The rest though, at his peak or prime Bowe was at the least should be even money or favored out right.
3 fight series Dempsey W W W Baer W W W Louis W W W Marciano W W W Liston W L W Frazier W W W Foreman L L L Lyle W W W Shavers W W W Always possible he loses one with that sort of power Cooney W W W Tyson W W W Bruno W W W Smith W W W Ruddock W W W Lewis L L L Mercer W W W Morrison W W W McCall W W W Tua W W W Rahman W W W Ike W W W Briggs W W W Wlad W W W Vitali W L W Sanders W W W Brewster W W W Peter W W W Povetkin W W W AJ L W W Wilder W W W
This is the best list so far, but I think he beats foreman at least once and loses to Wlad at least once,
Bowe 1991 was almost knocked out by Tyrell Biggs, he was sent reeling across the ring and almost went down, not a chance in a million years does Bowe defeat Vitali Klitschko, not ever & i'm not overly confident he would have defeated Wladimir. Bowe was a fine fighter with a good skill set but didn't have a champions mindset & Holyfield aside, he simply did not fight enough quality opposition to suggest he belongs up there with the all time greats, let alone defeat several of them.
How does Bowe fare against: Dempsey- Bowe UD Louis- Louis UD Marciano- Bowe SD Liston- Liston UD (Liston was too strong, didn't get hit too much, and had a significantly better jab) Frazier- FOTC Frazier TKO 8 (Bowe tries to be macho man and gets chopped down) Foreman- Foreman TKO 5 (again, Bowe tries to war and gets pulverized) Lyle- Bowe KO 6 Shavers- Bowe KO 4 Cooney- Bowe KO 9 Tyson- 80s Mike UD; 90s Mike gets stopped in 6 Bruno- Bowe KO 8 Smith- Bowe UD Ruddock- Bowe KO 5 Lewis- pre Steward Lewis Knocked the **** Out in by Bowe. Steward-era Lewis wins a tough fought UD. Mercer- Bowe by close decision Morrison- Bowe kicks the crap out of him after taking a couple of ugly shots early on Maybe 4. McCall- Bowe UD Tua- Bowe UD Rahman- Bowe KO 8 Briggs- Bowe KO 6 at the latest Wlad- Bowe KO in 7 Vitali- Bowe close decision Sanders- Bowe KO 4 AJ- Bowe KO 7 Wilder- Bowe KO 10
I'm not so sure about Frazier there. Bowe was real good at the sort of up close fighting Frazier liked, has 5 inches and 20lbs on Frazier, and hit real hard. I think Frazier has his hands full with 1992 Bowe.
