A prime Tim Witherspoon out points Riddick Bowe. Witherspoon would give Bowe fits with his jab, Bowe didn't deal well against fighters with decent jabs. Or fighters who fought him on the outside, funnily enough they also both had a similar very powerful overhand right. But i don't see that weapon being much use to either fighter, because i think both fighters are durable enough. But still i see Witherspoon winning a decision.
Is this bout sponsored by Playtex? It would be a hell of a fight if both turn up in top shape. In that scenario, I take Bowe. A bit bustier, erm, busier and quite a bit bigger. He can beat Tim with his own jab; Tim also struggled against good jabs - Thomas, Bruno, Tubbs - or be slightly better on the inside. Tim wins the battle of the overhand right, though, having better defence against it and better punch resistance (perhaps). What this bout would showcase, though, is two men who could keep a good pace even when out of shape as they were both so relaxed in the ring. They are loose, breathing easily and that will help preserve their stamina. Even if they don't train that spartanly, they'll be able to put on a show. At the end of the day, Bowe is generally held in most people's top 20, somewhere or other - usually late teens in heavyweight lists. Tim tends to feature in the 20-30 range and, though close, I think this bout would confirm that that is about right. Could they both have a tune up against Rock Newman and Don King where their shares of the purses are announced to the fighters?
Bowe in 1992 on a proposed defense against Witherspoon - "It'd be absurd for the American public to see me beat someone with breasts bigger than Dolly Parton's." I agree with Eddie excellent summation. Over the course of the bout i think Bowe has enough firepower and size to tire Tim a bit and keep him pretty honest. Good match this one and it would be hard fought.
Witherspoon of the Holmes fight vs Bowe of the first Holyfield fight would be a war of epic proportions. I can see both of these guys causing problems for the other.
