After watching him last night, im still wondering why hes fighting :think I mean what could possibly be in the sport for him at this stage? Hes way over weight and not conditioned at all. Hes not a draw at the ticket office And hes a million miles from being anywhere in the heavyweight picture except perhaps for a novelty clash of legends against Evander Holyfield should The Real Deal win upcoming his championship match, and even at that Im pretty sure Evander would demolish him, and tarnish the memory of their amazing trillogy. So, can anyone tell me why Riddick is still at it? He has an amazing record of only one defeat and was probably not as far away as people think to becoming an all time great if didnt as Buncey so eloquently put it "lose his battle at the fride door"
I thought Riddick showed some flashes of class against Pukall last night, he is a ways to go if he wants to be considered as any kinda threat, but boxing is all about entertainment and i enjoyed his 8 rounder as much as i did the Rahman Jabathon.. I worked around Riddick in 1993 when he was champ getting ready for Dokes, and i love seeing him still boxing and looking happy for once, he has had a rough few years.. I would like him to drop 20 pounds and focus on making a few waves in the sport, he was from a finer era and we can all learn from his skills, he still has his old tools... God bless, he will look a lot more polished if he loses a few pounds, weight has always hurt his best years.......
He knows how to survive in the ring, like all ATG's, he still had a snap to his jab and was mobile for his poor condition.. i want to see where he goes from here, i hope he stays busy otherwise he will never elevate any further......
OBC.. i really enjoyed his reighn in the early nineties and when i saw his condition i thought (Oh my god, he looks so fat and out of shape) but when he started getting the jab working he began to look the class act he always was. I started to look past his wasteline and seeing flashes of what he once was , a great heavyweight........ I hope he loses a few pounds and gets focussed , his speed of hand was still there when he settled down..
The reason Riddick Bowe is still fighting is because he obviously needs the money. I felt sad watching him last night, what shame a once great fighter like that reduced to 8 round undercard fights. He looked 60 years old. What a shame.
He didn't seem to have the same power any more to me. Maybe he just wanted to get the rounds under his belt to shake off the ring rust and I'm being harsh on him but I didn't think he had anything to really hurt Pukall with.
Riddick is still in it because of the thrill, the mental high, and the intensity of the experience. Once big time boxers experience that kind of excitement, it is very hard to walk away from it. It's like a drug. The ego rewards associated with being the world's best heavyweight remain in a fighter's psyche long after their best days are gone. It's common that these fighters can't resist the impulse to return to the ring in order to try for last taste of glory.
I agree with ya that its very hard for a fighter to walk away from the thrill of in ring action, but i gotta think that at some point common sense has to prevail, Riddicks doing himself no favour's in the condition hes in and could get seriously hurt if he takes on a dangerous fighter. That said at times last night his left jab was a joy to watch :think
