Especially considering that he has repeated over and over again, that he does not respect champions who ducked mandatories or who had titles stripped. Maybe if Holmes travels to Suzie's gym and helped him to work on his jab, that will change his perspective.
That is true and I still stand by that. But besides that, What do you care what I say? I am a fighter, not a boxing /experthistorian. What matters is what I do in the ring, not what I say out of it. All that matters is what I do with these fists............
Sure he is not what he is like in his prime, but no one thought foreman had a chance in his comeback either I don't need to listen to interviews, I can listen to him in the gym lol. Monsterous punching Power? you mean the way he bombed out chinnies like axel shulz, alex stewart, tommy morrison??? How would you know? foreman won the title at 45 and retained till 47 years old neither did they add up to foreman being succesful Why not? he now has goody petronelli training him.
Well, its typically the purpose of chat forums to reply to threads that people post. And anyway I was replying to John Thomas. This is a chat forum not a boxing ring, so anything that is posted in this forum, especially the classic section, is viewed as a discussion about boxing history.
Of course, but in hindsite, we at least know WHY, Foreman was succussful, and those factors don't seem to be on the side of Riddick Bowe. Then after your next conversation with him, play an old interview from 10-15 years earlier. Better yet, ask him if he remembers your last little chat. This quote doesn't even deserve a response. His defense in the past speaks for itself, and while he may have tried to improve it, Foreman's cross armed defense is a tough act to follow or duplicate. As for Power, I never thought that Bowe's punching ability even in his prime was equal to a comeback Foreman's. George destroyed a lot more men than Bowe and quite often in more impressive fashion. Does that mean that just anyone can do this? I have already listed the reasons why Foreman's comeback stood a better chance than Bowe's does. The problem is, Bowe was never much for keeping in shape even during his prime years and under the instruction of Eddie Futch. At age 40+ and after years out of the ring, I'm not sure that his conditioning will improve much regardless of who's training him. If he takes this comeback seriously, watches everything he eats, and trains like a mad man, THEN MAYBE he has a chance of getting back into fighting condition. But, if he resorts to old habits ( as most fighters do ), and simply relies on his past name recognition to carry him, then his comeback will be a rather short and tragic one.
Yeah, you are probably right about the MMA thing. I wouldn't care to see that! As far as Bowe being broke, that's a damn shame if that's true. The guy made tons of money in his career, and there were never any reports about Bowe being careless with his money like Mike Tyson or Muhammad Ali.....
And Bowe was " in shape" for his second fight with Andrew Golota. By all accounts, he trained harder than he ever had, and his weight for that fight - 235 - was the lowest it had been since he won the title from Holyfield. And he got beat up worse by Golota in that second fight than he did in the first fight. So, I'm not sure how much of Bowe's poor showings were the result of his not being in shape. It could be that he just doesn't "have it" anymore, regardless of his conditioning.
thats ridiculous. bowe knocked out holyfield and nearly knocked him out the first fight. foreman hit holy with his best and holy didnt even go close to going down. Who did george foreman knock out in the top 10 in the 1990s besides michael moorer?
Do you really expect me to let you get away with this bull****? In 1991, Foreman at age 42, fought a peak Holyfield who was at the top of his game. In 1995, Bowe at age 28, KO'd a declining Evander, who was aledgedly suffering from hepatitus B-a condition that limits a person's stamina during physical activity. In addition, if you're going to compare what happened in those two fights, then you might as well ad that Holyfield decked a prime Riddick, something that he didn't do to an old Foreman. There is no way for you to gain leverage by using this comparison. You're what? 21 years old? I was right around that age when that era was actually unfolding and watched it religiously. There is not much that you're going to tell me about the careers of George Foreman, Riddick Bowe or Evander Holyfield....Sorry, not going to happen...
Exactly, and how do you think he'll fare 12 years after the fact? Logic would certainly tell me that he's not going to be any better in 2008 then he was in 1996, especially if he is indeed suffering from brain damage as well as ring rust. I wouldn't be surprised if he had difficulty getting a boxing license in various states at this point.
Riddick Bowe DECKED a prime holyfield in 1992. did george foreman do that? did he? How did foreman fare trying to put away fighters like axel shulz, tommy morrison, alex stewart, crawford grimsley, shannon briggs? O boy! i am only 21 years old such a little boy!!!!! I didnt know such little boys could be professional boxing world champions at such an age! O my, little boys can now go to bars and order a drink in the USA? What has this country come too!!
