Recently Riddick Bowe has been doing a few exhibition bouts in the UK however reading on a few sites I think certain people were/are taking it a bit too seriously questioning why Bowe is coming back as well as the quality of opposition so from someone who attended one of these events (Wakefield) i'd just like to put some peoples minds at rest, these "fights" were exhibitions or to put it mildly a glorified heavy sparring session where the opponent can do what he wants whilst Riddick plays along with it (face it he'd be called a bully if he hurt the other guy) the Wakefield event against Les Allen ended in the inevitable crowd pleasing draw whereas Lee Radford was given the decision in Hull due to it being for a children's charity where £6000 was raised and in Leicester he drew with Mark Potter (who I think was his chaperone during the tour) and then they both went for a curry afterwards so you can tell the events were very friendly, as for Riddick he had time for everyone doing fight poses, shaking hands, chatting etc and came across as a really nice person, I did get some of his after fight interview which I've put a link for and no doubt some will say he sounds "punchy" but I think he's always spoke like that, the bit I didn't record was where Riddick says Herbie Hide was the hardest puncher and Holyfield his hardest fight and when asked about Lennox Lewis he never bad mouthed him but did say it was a regret of his that he didn't fight him and says he would have won at that time however when Manny Steward came into the Lewis camp and got his jab going it would have been different but he would still win, if you get the opportunity to meet Riddick I recommend you go as you'll enjoy yourself and will have a smile on your face when you leave. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q4GNDAH3T8
Its always been love-hate with Bowe. Such tremendous ability and winning, Ali-esque personality. But The hitting guys after the bell, coming to fights fat, and throwing a belt in the trash rather than facing Lewis...disgraceful. He should have at least two disqualification losses on his record, and the Tubss fight was also a gift. And now, to hear him talk about coming back year after years as he throws muy thai matches and considers wrestling Golata in a cage.... Stay retired Riddick. God bless and keep you and thanks for he memories, but you had your chance, and blew it.
