correct me if i am wrong on any of this....i could well be the fight was for the wba super-welterweight world championship....this is what the tv captions had and it is what the ref said to the boxers when they met in the centre of the ring before the fight. on boxrec it is listed as the wba world light-middleweight title. there is also a 'super' world champion at light-middle for the wba....if my sums are correct that is still floyd mayweather. so...if the tv captions on the fight broadcast and the ref are both correct...and it is officially the super-welterweight title.....would that make floyd mayweather the wba super, super-welterweight champion of the world? things like this bother me
LOL. Super-welterweight and Light-Middleweight are the same thing. I believe the WBA and WBC use this term instead of Light-middleweight.
no...thats my point...i know its the same weight....i'm asking what is the official name in the wba....super-welter or light-middle ?
In U.S Light Middle is Junior Middleweight, Have no clue why the WBA are calling it Super Welterweight but no point trying to understand the logic of these people there insane..
ok...got me answer... so it's the wba super-welterweight championship...not, officially, the wba light-middleweight championship floyd mayweather is, officially, the wba super super welterweight champion. austin trout is, offically, the wba super welterweight world champion. and thomas hearns has the wba super welterweight super belt. so...if i'm thinking right...boxrec are wrong to call it the wba light-middleweight title, as, officially that title doesn't exist.....have i got that right??.....even thought light-middle and super-welter are the same weight of course......?? easy sport to follow. In years past, the WBC and WBA always used different terminology for these "in between" divisions, to use 154 division as an example, the WBC would call it "super welterweight" and the WBA would call it "junior middleweight". This was the case for many years, and as close to consistency as these division names got. I guess nowadays there is much less consistency in these terms.
