I remember when a good few posters on here predicted that reality tv kid would knock Calzaghe out, lmao! Can't even remember his name!
I chose Clinton Woods over Tarver, due to the fact I thought Tarver was shot and Woods' activity would be enough for him to win a shock decision. He was the most inactive fighter since Dominick Guinn in that fight! I did however pick Breidis Prescott to K.O Khan in the 1st, so that makes up for it!
I'd say the most ridiculous pick I made in recent memory was that Wladimir Klitschko would beat Chris Byrd in a close fight in their rematch 3 years ago. I got the winner right but it may as well have not even mattered cuz Wlad absolutely battered Byrd. I figured Byrd would make it close and win 4 or 5 rounds. My logic for making this pick was that Byrd had always said that he wasn't comfortable going up against such huge fighters as the Klitschkos when he first faced them and felt that this time he actually belonged. He had always fought naturally bigger men but not quite that big and talented. Sure, he was on the slide but I figured that he'd come forward and try to make it a fight in what would basically be his last hurrah in defeat. Wladimir was still a bit shaky at the time although he had just come off his career-reviving victory over Samuel Peter. I usually just go with the safe pick. Due to matchmaking, I find boxing to be more stable in this regard. I'm mostly referring to when a top-10 guy faces a journeyman. There's an upset every now and then but when you have a fight like Pavlik/Lockett or Cotto/Gomez I think you know where the safe money is. On the other hand, when it's two top fighters going at it, you're guess is as good as anyone's.
