Right before Pavlik vs. Taylor, I said....

...that Taylor would probably get stopped late but if there was a rematch, he'd come back and avenge that loss.

I hope I'm wrong, but that prediction is still at the back of my mind. Although Pavlik had too much for Taylor, I do think we'll see a better version of Taylor this time around. more focused, in better shape, stronger, faster, smarter.

Hopefully Pavlik wins, but I'm far less confident now than I saw before the first fight.

Taylor was in shape. He was strong. He was fast. He just got beat by the better man. I think that JT can win a UD if he boxes for 12 rounds but he's got too much of the dog in him and he can't help himself and has to fight back when he's challenged.

Really, Pavlik is that good.

I personally dont rate Pavlik as highly as some here, hes effective for sure, but Taylor can beat him, but he seems to have the same mental problem as Judah! And that aint a good thing:lol:

Did you not get a sense of complacency with Taylor though? The one thing that I thought made him perform so poorly against Ouma, Spinks and Hopkins was that he knew he would win. I don't think he was overly scared at being in the ring and he was too confident.

Now he has been knocked out, I think we will see a far more determined Taylor. He realises how it can all go wrong in a split second. honestly, some fighters need to lose to prove to themselves they are mortal. A loss can help some fighters, such as Muhammad Ali or Lennox Lewis. If Taylor responds properly to being knocked out, then he is going to be a much tougher opponent on fight night,

I thought he was just beat. He came out smoking and he gave his full effort. He just got beat by the better man.

Having said that, it would not shock me if JT wins. JT's got the talent to win. But he has to use it the right way. That's why there is no way i'm putting money on this fight. :happy

Yeah, mental issues but different type. Judah gets discouraged when his game isn't working. JT does the opposite and does a bit of too much fighting when he gets attacked. Really, JT seems to be a little too simple minded. Even in his post fight interview, he said that he thought he was losing. He never gives himself credit. He just always talks about, "this is boxing and you are supposed to fight". Sort of like a cave man response.

I just dont think he is the greatest in ring thinker, there are plenty to name, but JT is not one of them, its as if he cant adapt to a situation, or is reluctant to :good

He was not complacent when he faced Pavlik, because even his hometown fans started to complain about him. And determination is not the same as mental strength and composure in the ring. And finally, Taylor is no Ali or Lewis, they had great champion mentality, Taylor as good talent for boxing but not the mindset to go along with it.

He actually thinks when he's in the ring?

I cant see Taylor taking Pavlik's power:nono

You need to be in condition, believe both will be. Same result as the first, mid to late rounds:good

I agree with your assessment of the first fight, and your thoughts on the possible outcome of this fight. I would not bet any money on this one.

That being said. Taylor has to back Pavlik up if he wants to win. If Pavlik is stalking Taylor and jabbing to set up the right, that's bad for Taylor. Taylor I think was most effective when he was fighting close.
I think Taylor is a better in fighter than Pavik. I think Pavlik at a greater distance has the edge with his jab and also catching Taylor's punches on his gloves which he was effective at last fight. Taylor hurt Pavlik when he was close. I could be way off base....

I don't think you're "way" off base. Just a little off. Taylor did hurt Pavlik when they were close. Lots of poeple have this thing all wrong. Boxing his way to a decision is NOT Taylor's best chance of winning. It was during the brawling portions of the fight that JT was at his best against Pavlik. And you're right about the need to back Pavlik up. There are 3 keys to beating this kid. 1) slip the jab so he can't set up the right hand. 2) Make him back-up. 3) Adopt a Joe Frazier mentality; "kill the body, and the head will die!" I've been following Pavlik's career longer than most in this forum, and I do not recall anyone making him back up, nor do I recall anyone consistenly mounting succesful attacks on the body. Can he fight going backwards? How tough is he when it comes to get beat on the ribs, chest, liver, et? I don't think we know.

I also do not think Taylor is the man to beat Pavlik. I respectfully disagree with your assesment that Taylor is a better fighter. He has one advantage; speed. Everything else, power, strength, stamina, hieght, reach, ring generalship, the ability to follow the corners instructons, et, all go to Pavlik.

Check out the link mentioned here: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45284 Taylor is now claiming he basically vacationed in the Poconos before his last fight.

As most know I'm full force Pavlik bandwagon for long time. I have also always liked JT.

The thing I noticed most in the first fight, if anybody has the full program go back and watch during Berto's fight they show an in-locker room interview with JT and he is so nervous his voice cracks bad and he can barely talk.

Now my worry is that he may have been scared at the prospect of being KO'd, hell he'd never even been down before and here he was getting ready to fight the guy that thrashed Miranda on his last undercard. NOW, and this could go two ways: either JT will be scared to get KO'd again once he gets in there OR now that he has experienced it he won't be afraid of it anymore (sometimes to overcome your biggest fears you have to deal with them head on) and not fight nervous to the point that if you see you had some success you throw everything including the friggin kitchen sink at the guy and blow your load in the 2nd round.

Pavlik KO 7.
